CHRIST HEALING – “Animal Magnetism Unmasked”
“In this illustration the only sickness is man buried in a tomb [is a woman in a coffin]. This man is represented here by the feminine aspect of himself, the woman – which is redeeming from its dormant concept which feminine characteristic has seemingly so prevailed for the last two thousand years. The masculine quality of Life is illustrated by Jesus in this picture. We can recall in Jesus’ resurrection from death he only embraced the aspect of Life which is predominantly masculine, the Father concept, but the resurrection must also embrace its Mother concept Love [DINAH], represented here by the woman in the tomb [coffin] and consequently she must be redeemed in order to fulfill his mission.”[1]
She does admit in the next sentence that this “man” is Mary Baker Eddy. “As a result of her refusal to reveal to the world the vision of Christian Science in an organized structure [as Church] she finds herself buried in darkness. The man in black to the left of Jesus heard only the words of Christ which declares: ‘God never said that man would become better by learning to distinguish evil from good, but the contrary, that by this knowledge, …came “death into the world, and all our woe.”’ (Unity of Good 14:27)”[2]
The “Christ-consciousness, represented by Jesus, speaks as he is moved by Spirit. Man’s humility and yearning to interpret his immaculate origin, uncovers the facts through the lens and prism of Spirit’s scope (light from the Star). The answer is, as this illustration indicates, the necessity to resurrect our concept of universal womanhood.
“To-day, ‘the destruction that wasteth at noonday; the pestilence that walketh in darkness’ generates the constant inner struggle of the individual desiring to translate that darkness and regenerate the spiritual fact of man. He seeks an adjustment and a fulfillment through fierce heart-beats. But the familiar words ‘What God hath joined together, let no man put asunder’, spiritually understood, assure desire and fulfillment. God, generic Light, emits light. This diversified light is seen in reflected ideas of that Light and appears as seven Days of Creation [or Six Days of Creation and a Sabbath Day], and in the new tongue exists as the numerals of infinity—Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love…This is the divine and only marriage state, or joining. It is the world’s divine Life-link to the universe, and is a scientific fact. Jesus refers to it as a ‘city set on an hill that cannot be hid’. This is the fulfillment that the woman and the man are striving for in this illustration. It is that eternal, divine union which has never been put asunder. Even old theology, the bearded man at the end of the partially sealed coffin, and the hopeful young bride of mortality, the girl, fail to alter this fact.”[3]
DAN, animal magnetism, is the fifth son (sun) of Jacob, but the first handmaiden’s son (sun) of Rachel (Love, or the Spirit of the Letter). The KEYSTONE is of the WOMAN GOD-CROWNED. CANCER is the zodiac for this TONE. The Rider TAROT card for CANCER is TEMPERANCE, which depicts the angel of Revelation 10. This tone, then, tells us that Mary Baker Eddy IS the Woman God-crowned and the angel of Revelation 10 – her feet are upon the moon AND upon the earth and sea. The woman God-crowned unmasked animal magnetism (DAN) so that DAN could be transformed into righteous judgment – DANIEL – who is taken into Babylonian captivity, but refuses to give up his God identity for a king-god that at one point goes crazy (loses his oneness with divine Mind).

Mary Baker Eddy says that the Bride is the Word. Yet, the BIBLE also tells us that the Word is God. God, therefore, is not only the Word but the Bride, and Christian Science is what the Bride brings forth via Mary Baker Eddy, God’s Scribe.
In CHRIST HEALING Jesus’ right arm forms a 90-degree angle (square thinking) and his left hand holds Mary’s right hand (her arm also forms a 90-degree angle). Together their arms and hands form a W shape (they are conjoined), and the space beneath their arms looks sort of like a heart. On the Unity Matrix this Illustration is directly above CHRISTIAN UNITY where Jesus and Mary again join hands, but in this Illustration their arms and hands form the shape of a “U” for Unity, true marriage between Christ Science and Christian Science. On page 57 of SCIENCE AND HEALTH Mary Baker Eddy writes, “Union of the masculine and feminine qualities constitutes completeness. …These different elements conjoin naturally, and their true harmony[4] is in spiritual oneness.” Then on page 68 she writes, “Sometime we shall learn how Spirit, the great Architect, has created man and woman in Science.” (Both quotes are from the chapter “Marriage” – which is found in the tone of the WORD as CHRISTIANITY.)
“In this Age, divine Light uncovers the method for self-emancipation and resurrects man’s cosmic consciousness to behold that Light.”[5]
Following “Christian Science Practice” (which ends with “Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake.”) is “Teaching Christian Science”. This chapter is the North Side of our foursquare city. Mary Baker Eddy writes: “When the discoverer of Christian Science is consulted by her followers as to the propriety, advantage, and consistency of systematic medical study, she tries to show them that under ordinary circumstances a resort to faith in corporeal means tends to deter those, who make such a compromise, from entire confidence in omnipotent Mind as really possessing all power.”
“However, she goes on to say that if the Scientist cannot see a solution, and employs this scientific healing system as correctly as he is able to comprehend it – he may consult cultured men or women in the medical field for assistance. Each student is privileged to work out his salvation according to his own light. She quotes the Master’s counsel: ‘Judge not that ye be not judged’, as in our study it must be self-teaching and self-healing before one can go into the world and BE that generic ray or reflect the omnipresent generic Light. Our world practice is self-practice.”[6]
“In the Prose Work, ‘The People’s Idea of God’ [page 8]…the Author reminds us:
“‘…God grant that the trembling chords of human hope shall again be swept by the divine Talitha-cumi, “Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.” Then shall Christian Science again appear, to light our sepulchers with immortality. We thank our Father that to-day the uncremated fossils of material systems, already charred, are fast fading into ashes; and that man will ere long stop trusting where there is not trust, and gorging his faith with skill proved a million times unskillful.’”[7]
This window is on the North Side of the Edifice. It is directly across from WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK (on the South Side). It too is a Rose Window.
It is in this Tone we see the FIFTH ELEMENT awakening to her own CHRIST-HOOD.

CHRISTMAS MORN – “Science, Theology, Medicine”
“The ‘living Vine’ of divine Principle-Love in [CHRISTMAS EVE] and its verses, has led us to the dawn of fulfilled consciousness…The discipline of spiritual education is an infinitely rewarding experience. The instantaneity and spontaneity of divine Light meeting human understanding regenerates and re-illumines the individual consciousness to gather energy so that it may scale new heights.”[9]
While this Illustration has the seventh Verse, it is not the seventh Illustration. But let us speak about the Seventh Day of Love. It comes during the Age of Aquarius, and Aquarius is the third living creature for Christianity, having the face of a (generic) man. Aquarius is a male, however, if you take into account that this man must be generic in nature then Aquarius is not only male but also female, being WHOLE or complete.
According to Funk and Wagnalls Dictionary seven is defined as: “Something composed of seven units; one more than six.” From Partridge’s Etymology: “Seven comes from heptas in Greek; septum, in Latin; and in SCIENCE AND HEALTH it symbolizes “the numerals of infinity” which are the Seven synonymous terms for God. In the Companion Bible, “Appendix XII, seven denotes completeness, fulfillment. So now be reminded that the seven Days, or the seven Stars in Jesus’ right hand on earth returned to join its feminine nature, heaven, as heaven yields up her time-sense to earth and heaven one, becoming infinitely conscious of ‘time no longer’.
“In seven there is a moment of spiritual rebirth in each one of us as we reflect upon the spiritual education of the last Six Days or the last six thousand years of human history. The Six Days can also refer to the six water pots (firkins),”[10]
These six water pots are located directly below WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK on the South Side.
Jesus translated water (our fourth element for Science) “into the wine of inspiration…at the marriage feast in Cana.”[11] This demonstration was through a transforming power.
Aries ruling planet is Mars and is known as the red planet. In the rainbow, red is a deep prismatic color on the outer arc of the rainbow. Aries, being a ram, could also be symbolic of the Christ, in that the Christ is the Lamb of God. In this Tone, Rachel’s (our female Ewe – or female lamb) handmaiden (Christ servant) is mother of Jacob’s Sixth Son (Sun) of Truth. Of course, his name is Naphtali “wrestling” – man must begin to recognize his own image and likeness as God, then he can see the face of his brother as the face of God – instead of as the face of man. Esau, Jacob’s wrestling, was covered with red hair – symbolic of the Adam man (mortal minded man). After Jacob wrestled over the idea of his own true identity he was given a new name (a new identity) with was Israel. Esau was Jacob’s First Degree identity, Jacob was his Second Degree identity, and Israel was Jacob’s Third Degree identity. The later name was his true identity, and he was able to transform Esau’s identity as that of Spirit instead of matter.
The Age of Aries began around the time that Moses was up on the mountain chipping out the stone tablets for the Ten Commandments. Before that was the Age of Taurus, this may be why the Israelites made a golden calf? The Egyptians worshiped the Apis Bull. When you read about the Apis Bull you can see how it symbolizes the Christ. In fact, the second living creature is the ox or bull, and the second living creature stands for the Christ. So, the golden (divine) calf (Christ) cannot be idolized as a material idol, it must be recognized as our own divine nature, or who we really are as the SUN (SON) of GOD. It is this own divine nature that Naphtali “wrestles” with, just as Jacob wrestled the angel (stranger) and was able to see his brother Esau as the FACE OF GOD, instead of a personal sensed mortal minded face of a man.
“The present dawning of a new day commands us to come out from the world as it appears to mortal concept [as the face of a material personal man] and be our own guy [be the FACE OF GOD]. Anything less than total dedication to demonstration acknowledging the illusion and the counterfeit of mortal history will limit our capacity and ability to be successful in the Christ and Christmas (Christ’s Christianity) Journey. Let’s not go back and commence the grim night of old chaos again.”[12]
In CHRISTMAS MORN we see two angelic figures blended as one. They represent the Sixth and Seventh Days of Truth (Michael – Mary Baker Eddy’s God-crowned mission) and Love (Gabriel – generic man’s God-crowned mission) – or Leah and Rachel, Jacob’s two wives representing the Letter of the Law (Leah) and the Spirit of the Law (Rachel). Remember, in the squared-cycle of the CHRIST we have Rachel and Leah’s two handmaidens giving birth to Sons (Suns) 5 (Dan), 6 (Naphtali), 7 (Gad), and 8 (Asher). Why is Leah the Letter of the Law? Because, the letter of the law, at the time, demanded Jacob to marry the first born daughter (or the First Degree daughter). However, he was forced (tricked) into marrying her. He had to work another cycle of years before he was allowed to marry his true love – Rachel, the ewe. His Spirit (of the law) was willing to marry what he loved – Rachel. I believe that Leah and Rachel are also twins, and that Leah is Rachel’s Fist Degree identity and Rachel is her Second Degree identity, and it is not until Joseph is born that Rachel’s Third Degree identity is revealed to her. And Leah’s DINAH is the Womanhood to Rachel’s JOSEPH.
Also, the two angels of CHRISTMAS MORN represent the Letter of the Law (Zebulun/Dinah) and the Spirit of the Law (Dinah/Joseph). “It is important to practice a self-conscious communion before we can truly receive their [the two angels’] message. They represent ‘the new idea, conceived and born of Truth and Love, and clad in white garments’. Whenever we see this combination of the synonymous terms ‘Truth and Love’ in Mrs. Eddy’s writings or in any writings of her advanced students, it generally refers to generic man [the FACE OF MAN spiritually understood by Israel (the Third Degree) to be the FACE OF GOD].”[13]
Originally Mary Baker Eddy wanted three angels being depicted, but then later changed it to two angels. She told her artist, “Have it a glorious sunrise, and three angels in female forms in the air pointing to this dawn; but have no wings on them. Make no specialty of the ground. Have it a sky view. Now carry out these designs with all the skill of an artist, and my story is told in Christian Science, the new story of Christ, and the world will feel its renovating influence.” (From Gilman’s book, his “Introductory Critique” given by Gilbert Carpenter, Jr.; Italics added.)
Notice Mary Baker Eddy did not want any male angels in the Illustration. This means that, opposed to what some Christian Scientists have put forth, these two angels are not the two witnesses spoken of in Revelation 11. And we have more authority to accept them as being Michael (Truth) and Gabriel (Love).
Ingelborg puts forth a different reason for the three angels, as there is a story in I Samual 10:3-4 where Saul is anointed by Samuel (the prophet). “He was told that on his journey he would meet a man carrying three loaves of bread, but he would receive only two of them. We might consider this first loaf as the BIBLE and the second loaf SCIENCE AND HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES. The reason he didn’t get the third loaf is that each one of us is Saul on a journey, and we must individually demonstrate the third loaf for ourselves. That is why, from the incident in the life of Saul, Mrs. Eddy was guided intuitively to imply there should be three angels in this fifth picture, yet only two of them should be depicted.”[14]
This seems to be a plausible explanation for having three angels while only depicting two, but what if this is not the real answer? After all, there is no BIBLE depicted in CHRISTMAS MORN. There is only the Christian Science Textbook, and it is a closed book. Could the three angels have represented three types of Womanhood, or even Motherhood? Could they have not been for the Virgin Mary, Mary Baker Eddy, and Martha Jones-Smith (generic man)? And since these two angels, as previously discussed, represented the Sixth and Seventh Days, then the Virgin Mary (Life) is not depicted in this Illustration. It is possible that since this Illustration takes place in the New World, or New England, that the Virgin Mary was not depicted.
CHRISTMAS MORN “is the last step we have to translate in our thought-flow from the second Illustration [CHRIST HEALING] or step translating Scientific Obstetrics, as observed from the two advents in the Precession Chart C [seen as slices of pie #2 and #5].”[15]
What is above is changed from what Ingeborg gave. I changed it to go along with what I feel is correct. But what she showed as #5 (I have as #1) shows is the First Christ Advent of Christ Jesus (MAN) under the sign of Leo (the Word), while she has #2 (I have as #4) being the Second Christ Advent of Christian Science (WOMAN) under the sign of Taurus (the Christ), and then the Third Christ Advent of generic man is found in slice #11 (I have it as #7) for the Aquarian Age. However she has here “fifth and sixth periods—DAYS”, it perhaps should say “sixth and seventh periods—DAYS”. I do find it quite interesting that she has five stars in the hub of the wheel, and the four elements are aligned with the Second Degree slices of pie (and the four living creatures). So, there is also a fifth element (a fifth Morning Star) in the center of the four other stars. And this makes me think of the movie, The Fifth Element.
To continue with her paragraph: “…Any point in our matrix beyond seven by verse or illustration means that the time-sense has already been translated as it relates to the specific subject. We are in the seventh tone message as it relates to the mission of Christ and Christmas in this fifth illustration. The fifth Day corresponding to the Days of Creation is Life, which term interprets the Father sense. It is the masculine aspect of any problem, the total earth foundation stone. Isn’t that what we are witnessing here? The open grave has unsealed the time-sense and opened the firmament for the ‘naming of the kingdom of heaven’. We are aware intuitively that some great thing is about to happen – but the naming remains to appear at our sixth illustration sub-heading. This path, or road of our Journey – which does not have an adder [a talking serpent] in it, as we observed in the third illustration, is intersected this time by water winding in and out in a spiraling flow. These two spirals, the path and the river, intersect as terrestrial, and are symbolized by the masculine quantitative sense, the road in its spiral path, and reflect all the elements of Life; the water intersecting the road with its feminine qualities of cohesion, adhesion, and attraction, embraces the road at the point of intercourse so evident in this elliptical image. The ellipse represents the operation of the masculine and feminine qualities unifying, eventually to appear as the Lamb of God or the idea of Principle, mentioned in “The Apocalypse” chapter in SCIENCE AND HEALTH.”[16]
I am not so sure that the path and river are spiraling. I see them as having “S” shapes and that they cross with each other. In fact, the path seems to be a big “C” while the river seems to be an “S” (even though they continue on into the background). Could this stand for Christian Science? In the Illustration above of CHRISTMAS MORN, it seems like the path leads to a FORK in the road, and it seems to resemble the head of a snake. However, I am not sure that this is the artists’ intention. Could it also represent the two elements that the angel of Revelation 10 places her feet upon (the water and the land)? I call this the X-Stream of Science and apply it to what I call the Journey Matrix, based upon the Skylight Window of the Auditorium in the Little Boston Edifice.
Of course, Alice Orgain sees it another way. “That Mrs. Eddy received harsh judgment from the church during the first organization of the Boston Church, is evidenced by her pathetic article entitled ‘Parting Makes Tender’ in the January Journal of 1890. This was written shortly after she dissolved the College [river] and the confused and discordant church [path] in 1889, and retired to Concord, New Hampshire.”[17]
I can symbolically see that the College “teachings” would represent the elemental water (river) while the material organized church (which was discordant) would symbolize the element of earth’s path. Remember that earth is for the Christ element and water is for the Science element.
“The buildings which we find in this illustration…represent (1), the first organization of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, the black steeple; (2), on the horizon we see the State Capitol which prophetically when the Extension of the Mother Church was built in 1906, resembled this image, and has since been taken to symbolize that church [Is this why in my Archer Cloud dream that the picture of the domed building could have symbolically represented the capitol of Denver or the Extension’s dome?]; (3), the small house on the right of the path is the house in Bow where Mrs. Eddy was born. That is in black, too. [Is this because any belief of birth has to do with the First Degree?] The trees in Christ and Christmas, other than the Christmas tree, always symbolize Mrs. Eddy’s hope for the ‘Branches’. It was her hope that at the time of her demise individual church members would continue branch work, in the home until such time as their Manual footsteps would lead them on to ultimate self-demonstration – ‘no temple therein’. The dormant understanding of Christianity is symbolized by the twelve sheep, representing the Tribes of Israel, not looking up or listening, staying in their own little grooves, even though the ‘fence’ (human boundaries) is broken and nothing is hindering them from going forth on their own.”[18]
“The female idea, the heavenly bride of Spirit, embraces the male idea in this third edition of SCIENCE AND HEALTH.” (Angelic Overtures of Christ and Christmas, by Alice Orgain)
“This edition of SCIENCE AND HEALTH is represented here in the arm of the feminine living creature, sometimes referred to as the ‘Angel Gabriel’ or Jacob’s beloved Rachel.
“Mrs. Eddy stated: ‘Because my ideal of an angel is a [composite] woman without feathers in her wings, is it less artistic? or less natural?’ Mrs. Eddy has no angels in Christ and Christmas except in this illustration, so the angels here must be the (composite) woman to which she refers. Assuming that such is the case, her further statement that ‘angels’ with overtures hold charge over both Christian Science and its Art and announce their Principle and idea, three angels, then, with their overtures, must continue one composite being.”[19] Would not these “three angels” represent Life, Truth, and Love?
“ANGELS
“When angels visit us, we do not hear the rustle of wings, nor feel the feathery touch of the breast of a dove; but we know their presence by the love they create in our hearts. Oh, may you feel this touch, — it is more than this: it is a spiritual idea that lights your path! The Psalmist said: ‘He shall give His angels charge over thee.’ God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for to-morrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment. What a glorious inheritance is given to us through the understanding of omnipresent Love! More we cannot ask: more we do not want: more we cannot have. This sweet assurance is the ‘Peace, be still’ to all human fears, to suffering of every sort.” (Miscellaneous Writings, by Mary Baker Eddy; p. 306:23-307:10)
So every Illustration, where we find a dove, these doves represent an angel of divine Science. We find a dove in CHRISTMAS EVE and THE WAY.
Ingeborg presents “Blest Christmas Morn” one of Mary Baker Eddy poem-hymns to us in the following way:
“In closing, we would miss the mark if we did not consider another facet of the message and mission of this page’s impress. Explore the simple word ‘eddy’. Is it a person, a place, or a thing? Looking at the river in our picture, ponder the coincidence between the Author’s name ‘Eddy’, and a synonym for water, ‘eddy’. [Remember water is the element of Science.]
“A letter from Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter, Jr., which was written to Mrs. Eddy in 1898, of their findings in connection with the meaning of her last name, says in part:
“‘We found in Webster the term eddy. This word is in no other language; a compound of the Saxon ed meaning backward, and ea meaning water; a current of water running backward, or in a direction contrary to the main stream’.
“As to the term eddy, which elucidates certain characteristics of the early pioneer of divine Science, Gilbert Carpenter in his book entitled MARY BAKER EDDY, Her Spiritual Footsteps, writes: ‘Independence of thought – which was so needed by one who literally became an eddy in the great stream of thought…and in the letter defined above as a current of water flowing back, or in a direction contrary to the main stream,’ we too can reflect on this coincidence.
“In addition, from an old 1857 Webster, ‘Eddy: Wheels which form spirals in air, earth or water’: and this would correspond again to Ezekiel’s prophecy of the ‘wheels within wheels’. (To-day we find ‘eddy’ symbolized by the helical motion through ether, space, or atomically generated force, as well as in the divine cybernetics of absolute Christian Science.)”[21]
About these comments I would like to say that Venus, the planet, rotates in a counterclockwise motion, this is the opposite of earth’s rotation. Also, I would like to comment upon the Wheels. “Wheels within wheels” speaks to me as WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK, my matrix where I have squared-cycles or wheels within itself as the divine infinite calculus. To me, Ezekiel’s Wheel is not a spaceship from some alien planet (like many people today would have you believe), no, Ezekiel’s Wheel is the Stargate Matrix, or the Unity Matrix, which I have presented to you via WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK – what Mary Baker Eddy gave to us in the little original Boston Edifice on the Southern wall of Christianity. It too is an Eddy, for inside the Church it runs in the counterclockwise order (just as Venus does). It is only while looking at the Window from outside the Edifice that it moves in a clockwise order.
“To Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter’s letter asking her whether or not she considered the coincidence significant, Mrs. Eddy replied to Mrs. Carpenter. She said:
“‘Your kind letter at hand. The interpretation is quite noticeable in some directions. God grant that I be found not wanting in the direction that runs Heavenward. The streams of our lives meet with much resistance, but there is a hope beyond earth’s ebb and flow. May you and all find the shoreless sea where Life is infinite, and all that seems to be and is not, is swallowed up in the reality of Life and Love.’”[22]
“Since this elliptical image translates the end of the womb experience in the physical, it is the beginning of a bridge or flow to the resurrected male/female consciousness becoming aware of a new thing illustrated in part in our ninth step by a completed circle or sphere. So let us take [this whole] message with us. It must be re-translated in its third degree when we arrive at that ninth picture-message.”[23] Which is CHRISTIAN UNITY.
“In conclusion and summarization, this river translated, is the ‘EUPHRATES (river). Divine Science encompassing the universe and man; …metaphysics taking the place of physics…’ (S&H “Glossary”)”[24]

TREATING THE SICK – “Physiology”
“‘Materialism grades the human species as rising from matter upward. How then is the material species maintained, if man passes through what we call death and death is the Rubicon of spirituality? Spirit can form no real link in this supposed chain of material being. But divine Science reveals the eternal chain of existence as uninterrupted and wholly spiritual; yet this can be realized only as the false sense of being disappears.’ … ‘We are Christian Scientists, only as we quit our reliance on that which is false and grasp the true. We are not Christian Scientists, until we leave all for Christ.’(Emphasis added.)”[25]
“CAPRICORN, the sign of the Zodiac…is black, and black in its negative connotation is not only the color of death, but absorbs all light.”[26] CAPRICORN is also symbolized as a goat. A goat is often used as a symbol for the devil. Many people like goats. I for one have nothing against them; I just prefer not to be around them, as they love to chew on your clothes. Also, a goat’s iris is sideways and that is freaky looking to me.
“…Since we are translating our work from the counterfact – Sacred Stellar Lore, and not the counterfeit, astrology, CAPRICORN becomes the bearer of all the colors, even as seven-hued white. Incidentally, it does correspond with the verse: ‘Life, without birth and without end, Emitting light.’ In review, the seven prismatic colors of the rainbow are, according to the Word order:”[27]
(I am going to put them in the order for the Major Pyramid Matrix of TRUTH. We ascend up the side of the pyramid from MIND to TRUTH and then we begin our descent with LOVE and down through the four levels of SCIENCE.)
Mind is for the First Day, Spirit for the Second Day, etc. Below is the pyramid as it fits in with Christ and Christmas.
“All spiritual ideas in their hues and tints blend and take shape in glorious forms of transparency.
“In expression – color – quality and quantity we now resurrect our celestial sign and symbol of CAPRICORN to seven-hued white. This is the transforming practice of divine Science.”[28]
“In order to let divine Love make us definite, consider the last paragraph of the chapter in ‘Science of Being’. It defines universal government, the social, economic, and political form of the ‘universe peopled with spiritual ideas under the government of divine Science.’ The Author states: ‘“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Exodus xx.3) The First Commandment is my favorite text.’ Students, in self-discovery and interpreting divine thought to the world, what importance should one expect readers or hearers to place on words (when revealed through Truth) were stated thus; ‘This is my favorite text’? Due emphasis on that expression or statement should follow, should it not? So please give emphasis to this statement of the Author.”[29]
Having only one Mind “demonstrates Christian Science. It inculcates [calculates] the tri-unity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall have no other spirit or mind but God [the creative Light], eternal good, and that all men shall have one Mind. The divine Principle of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal. One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself,’ annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, – whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes, equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.” (S&H 340:15; [Ingeborg’s comments on page 32.])
“In pondering these divine words, let us look at the message of this eighth illustration. According to our grid-overlay we see in the grey of Science pervading the top horizontal view, a bit of the man’s head and headboard as well as his pillows appearing in the WORD as the WORD. To be specific, the left side of his head is showing (and left represents intuition or the feminine nature). Horizontally, at the opposite side – SCIENCE as the WORD, – the top two knobs of the rocker appear (it is the same rocker as in the fourth and seventh pictures), and the foot of the bed is somewhat showing in a darker grey. These three gradations of light, not clearly defined, are beliefs disappearing, and the operation of divine thought becoming clearer. The black areas denote the three modes of mortal thought, the depraved, the physical, and the evil. The measures of meal, as means of divine thought apparent in this illustration through three degrees of light, are science, theology, and medicine, now scientifically operating as Life, Truth, and Love at the point of absolute Christian Science. This omni-action of divine Science is represented again by the convergence of the vertical feminine figure with the horizontal masculine form.”[30]
The coordinating chapter for this Illustration is “Physiology”. “Physiology is one of the apples from ‘the tree of knowledge.’ Evil declared that eating this fruit would open man’s eyes and make him as a god. Instead of so doing, it closed the eyes of mortals to man’s God-given dominion over the earth.” (S&H 165:1) Neither the woman’s eyes or the man’s eyes are opened in this Illustration!
Pomegranates are thought to be the forbidden fruit by some people. However, I believe that pomegranates are prefect examples of the “seed within the seed” – what Soul really is as itself. Also, the pomegranate fruit is a symbol used for the woman God-crowned (THE HIGH PRIESTESS and THE EMPRESS) in the Rider Tarot card deck. This being the case, could we not say that a pomegranate is fruit from the tree of life?
Mary Baker Eddy ends “Physiology” with “St. Paul says: ‘For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.’ (I Cor. ii. 2.) Christian Science says: I am determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him glorified.” (S&H 200:25)
“The 6th edition of SCIENCE AND HEALTH appears in this segment, which emphasized the method of SILENT HEALING, i.e., the spontaneity of thought and idea. The consciousness of both the masculine and feminine elements are consciously aware of their Christ-mission. They are above the letter and the law of the moral and are reaching for the spiritual and transformed state of consciousness or being.
“The only new features of the 6th edition of SCIENCE AND HEALTH were the abridgement of the chapter on ‘Demonology’; and the addition of the ‘Glossary’ called ‘Key to the Scriptures’. There was no change in SCIENCE AND HEALTH from the 6th edition to the 16th edition. This healing [in TREATING THE SICK] illustrates handling the ‘mist’ of the second chapter of Genesis which would make matter the producer of man and which these individual natures are dissipating as Mind and Love awakening to the science of obstetrics.
“The corresponding Christ and Christmas Glossary quotation to this verse is: ‘“Heal the sick.” – Christ Jesus.’”[31]
Are not the man and woman in this Illustration representations of Adam and the woman? The mission is given to the woman, who Adam misidentifies as Eve, to step upon the serpent’s head. The serpent’s head is Adam’s brain communicating electronically with the nervous system of the talking serpent. We must overcome the belief that man is a physical persona.
“The feminine quality in this illustration in the white seamlessness (purity) of her robe {dress}, touching the rungs of the rocker (omni-action) and the floor (the moon aspects), is translating the whole erroneous sense of loneliness. In the SCIENCE AND HEALTH ‘Glossary’ the term ‘Wilderness’ – which types the bitter experience which Mrs. Eddy seems to be going through at this point in her mission, is defined as:
“‘Loneliness; doubt; darkness. Spontaneity of thought and idea; the vestibule[32] in which a material sense of things disappears, and spiritual sense unfolds the great facts of existence.’
“The occultism of this period in the evolution of Christian Science was the overwhelming climate of ecclesiastical despotism which existed in the world; specifically, the accusations that Mrs. Eddy was a spiritualist and a heretic. It was a most aggressive campaign to denounce and dethrone her revelation. Breaking these bonds or lies was difficult enough, but on top of this was the madness endeavoring to ascribe the authorship of SCIENCE AND HEALTH to a man named Phineas Quimby, to whom Mrs. Eddy had gone for help in her invalidism. The aggressive operation of evil appeared almost to pervert the Christ Science. Those accusations, of course, were annulled in court; and unanimously agreed among the members of the Quimby family as being entirely false. Information in connection with this case may be found in the excellent biography Mary Baker Eddy, by Sibyl Wilbur.”[33]
Today the Boston hierarchy wants nothing to do with Sibyl Wilbur’s book. This is probably because it exposes the truth about them. It is of significant importance that both Quimby and Mark Baker (Mary’s father) passed on before her healing of February 4, 1866. As both of them were strong men in her life representing medical and religious holds that male energy wishes to have over the feminine.
“…in summarizing the functions of this eighth illustration, the impelling divine Principle forces the Christian Scientist to regenerate concepts of Being in order to live within the true resurrected system of Science revealed by Mary Baker Eddy, or die in ecclesiastical despotism in which the Christian Science Church has seemed to bury Christian Science.”[34] They have been able to bury Christian Science by denying Mary Baker Eddy as the Leader of Christian Science; they have done so by throwing the Church Manual down to the ground of material law, where it became a serpent, which now needs to be handled by Ophiucus.
“The ‘pale brow’ in this verse refers to the ‘pale star’ of Christianity waiting for the new Star – seven-pointed – of divine Science. The new Christian Science comprehensively and subjectively demonstrated, no longer fragments any of its message – Wholeness begins to project Science Itself. [See Dr. Max Kappeler’s Chart illustrating scientific ontology in THE FOUR LEVELS OF SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS.]
“Then the feminine principle translating the masculine and spiritually blending with it—looks like woman, but is Truth and Love Itself spiritually demonstrated and manifested. This resurrection restores the true concept of church, universal and triumphant!”[35]
Perhaps if the “men” of the church realized that Christian Scientists were not supposed to get married or have children via sexual intercourse, then maybe they would wake up to the fact that they did not need to have a strangle hold on a material organized church? These five illegal directors are the old goats belonging to the devil. They oppose the Fifth Element of Principled-Love.
GAD “togetherness” represents “all one body” or “all one brotherhood”. This is wholeness or completeness; this “Wholeness begins to project Science Itself.”
Christ’s Fourth Minor Stargate and the CONCORD GRAPEVINE KEYSTONE

THE WAY – “Footsteps of Truth”
“In the eleventh illustration and 15th verse we are approaching the omnipresence of the omni-universe. Truly, our song and object-lesson are being self-demonstrated as Truth and Love itself.”[36]
In the later editions the verse was written as [Ingeborg’s comment]:
The Glossary statement” “‘And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.’ – Christ Jesus.”
“The Author made her last big textual addition to SCIENCE AND HEALTH in the 3rd edition of the 226th revision of SCIENCE AND HEALTH in 1908 by stating: ‘Christian Scientists, be a law unto yourselves, that mental malpractice cannot harm you, either when asleep or when awake.’”[37]
“Seeing with spiritual vision, the single eye or ‘I’, only the divine image and tone, sight and sound, is the forever object-lesson accomplished and the one song, the heavenly chorus, heard. In the first rendering of Christ and Christmas in 1893 the Author illustrated this last object-lesson THE WAY in a constant breadth shape, like a pear. When you look up this term you will find that this shape is unalterable; it cannot be squared.”[38] I tend to think that the shape of the first THE WAY is triangular, even though it is rounded. I do feel like the pyramid matrix can be used as an overlay, or template for this version of THE WAY. “It is representative of the immutable ‘NEW THING’. Originally there was only one darkened cross, entwined by the lilies (flowers’ around the cross) from the plains of Jordan. At the base is supposed to be seen a garlanded serpent’s head…”[39]
Speaking of the second version of THE WAY, Ingeborg writes: “Following this descending, divinely planned, critical and narrow path of Light, we find ourselves at the point of transforming world relationships, and the modus operandi for universal acceptance is presented. No beliefs, no half-truths, no metaphysics, no variables exist at this point. The self-operative, self-regulative, system of divine Science resurrected via the divine matrix or scroll, is the new/old tongue to every expression and relationship. Mankind disports itself in heavenly bliss as there is no longer opposition to the one Truth. Scientific manifestation reigns as our Journey is ended, and the cross is forever translated. The ‘church militant’ is now the ‘church universal and triumphant.’”[40]
I am not sure she is right about the type of flowers. I read that they were “forget-me-nots”. Again, in the following, I am not sure she is correct, however, I will present it to you so that you may ponder upon it. “…On the cross’s bar are nine birds, representing the nine Tribes of Israel. The tenth Tribe – ZEBULUN – is the white dove descending from the zenith of this image, and represents the natures of BENJAMIN and REUBEN as redeemed generic Principle and idea. There is no branch in the beak of the dove.”[41] Why is there no branch in the dove’s beak? It is because this Illustration is ten years before the descent of the city foursquare.
“The descending Tribal-Angel typed by Reuben, Mind, …symbolizes ‘the city of our God’, as universal Love. ‘The dissipation of the walls of the city foursquare by JOSEPH realized BENJAMIN in our fourteenth step and in the order of Christian Science in its own System of tribal expansion, Christian Science correspondingly finds itself as absolute Christian Science…as the “city of our God” with no “boundary nor limit.”’ At this point the unified consciousness of the two mothers of the twelve Tribes and the two wives given to Jacob, one representing law (Leah) and the other love (Rachel), are symbolized as composite Bride or generic man. Translated, they, as Bride, conceive ‘Man through the idea of God’ (S&H 582:14) and within the boundlessness of Bridal consciousness typed by the twelve manner of fruits (translated Tribes) of Love on the ‘tree of Life’. Thus Bride encompasses Jacob, or Israel now as Nation, singular, typed by ‘the tree of Life.’.
“‘Thus, “the tree” or nation, which grew in the body of Adam [Genesis 2:9] became the forever embraced “off-spring’ of the composite Bride in line with the definition of Bride in the ‘Glossary’ of SCIENCE AND HEALTH.’ (See As It Is)
“This consciousness returns to its ‘first love’ REUBEN, which corresponds to the first Church of Ephesus, to which Jesus promised ‘the tree of Life’ and in which he symbolically placed the Christ-idea figuratively holding seven stars, typing the spiritual ideas of the churches, and the seven-branched candlestick typing the seven earthly church expressions in Bride (generic man) consciousness. Jesus spoke of this Church of Ephesus as ‘he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand {Benjamin means “son of my right hand”}, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks.’ (Revelation 2:1)”[42]
Before I continue on, I would like to make a comment about the one “who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks”. It is quite possible that one happens to be the woman God-crowned. Why do I say this? It is because there are seven candlesticks for the seven visions of Revelation. The woman God-crowned is placed in the fourth vision (the center vision) of Revelation!
“So it is only in returning to REUBEN’s ‘first love’ of the oneness of earth and heaven, as the male/female of Spirit that REUBEN ‘eats of the fruits of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God,’ in the name of universal love for all mankind.””[43] So, is not this tree of life SCIENCE AND HEALTH – the little book open found in the center hub of WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK? Are not the leaves of this tree the pages of SCIENCE AND HEALTH?
Before I continue on with page 47, I would like to present now, what was previously given to us in another portion of Ingeborg’s Squares. (My title below.)
THE FLOCK OF BIRDS
“The nine Tribes of Israel featured in the ‘Glossary’ of the book SCIENCE AND HEALTH are required to redeem the three Tribes – ZEBULUN, NAPHTALI, and SIMEON – not included therein, in order to fully establish the fulfilled concept of resurrected ‘Church’. Jesus, in his mission held seven stars in his right hand corresponding only to the seven Days of Creation. He left seven churches, also aspects of the seven stars, for his feminine nature to redeem and re-form [in the future].”[44]
The Woman’s crown, “another Comforter” is seen in the sky of the second version of THE WAY. “This ‘crown’ also represents the twelve Tribes of Israel…the Tribal Wheel. The prophesied five more stars which woman has at this stage redeemed from the standpoint of the five physical senses, converge with man’s seven stars, thus evolving twelve footsteps or the now gates in the Science of Life, Truth, and Love.”[45]
“The five descending angels, tribes or tribal-angels – or stars in the Woman’s crown – heavenly footsteps – bring only morning light to the churches to which the evening consciousness yields.” (As It Is; Alice Orgain)
Our Journey in Extension (Joseph) is located in the Christ as divine Science Tone (Leah’s Handmaid’s second son – ASHER). “It will reveal to us the Tree of Life as the ‘root and offspring’ of its own generic being, as well as its ‘bright and MORNING STAR’ expression of generic Light…the total and generic redemption of the twelve stars on Woman’s crown translates the five physical senses and converges with Man’s seven stars and redeems the five churches of the Christianity period along the ‘Way’.”[46] I think that the white dove, as divine Science, represents all five descending Tribal-Angels, but this is not what Ingeborg thinks, she says the white dove is ZEBULUN (Leah’s Sixth Son [Sun]). Yet, ASHER is also her Sixth Son, via her Christ servant. If we count ASHER as her Sixth Son, then ZEBULUN would be her Eighth Son. But, ZEBULUN can only be ZEBULUN if he is counted as one with DINAH as the Letter of the Law.
“Libra and her ruling planet, Venus [the Morning Star], and its Jade color, represent in the first degree a higher sense of the union of masculine and feminine qualities – a partnership – a lawful marriage that the world has interpreted from the astrological, the time-sense. ”[47] As we have stepped up a rung of the ladder, from GAD, in our ascent toward Light we now embrace the seventh Tribal-Angel
“[Star]Gate 8 – ASHER. Let us start with the first descending Tribal-Angel,[48] its divine point of Love shown by its violet color. This descending angel, ASHER – eighth in the order of Christian Science practice, embraces GAD, the seventh Tribal-Angel. [These are the Christ Handmaiden sons of Leah.] Its antecedent [GAD], [is] redeeming its false sense of ‘rest’ as torpor, ‘evening’ light. The static Christianity of the Church of the Laodiceans, the seventh church, MUST be quickened, particularly by rebuking the ills of the flesh. To this church Jesus promise: ‘To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne.’ (Revelation 3:20, 21)”[49] In CHRISTIAN UNITY (JOSEPH) “Jesus is sitting on ‘the Rock’ Christ, typing the final awakening of human consciousness from static Christianity to the ‘living Christ’.”[50] In the second version of THE WAY the black cross represents static Christianity, while the ascending crowned-cross has awakened to the ‘living Christ’.
“{Star}Gate 9 – ISSACHAR. The second descending Tribal-Angel, ISSACHAR, appears in its point of Truth…This descending Angel of the ninth {Stargate} in the order of Christian Science embraces the ‘morning’ light of the womanhood of NAPHTALI, and the ‘wrestling’ sense of the sixth Day (Truth’s labor) yields, sacrifices rather than redeems, the false sense of the WORD of God. Jesus had sent out this morning light of his womanhood as the sixth Church – the Church of Philadelphia – whose ‘evening’ light of ‘brotherly love’ pertaining to ‘family’ church consciousness yields to unified Science as the ‘key of David’ which ‘openeth and no man shutteth and shutteth and no man openeth.’ (Revelation 3:7) This ‘key’ is divine Science, that re-opens the ‘{Star}gates of paradise which human beliefs [separated man and woman] have closed.’ (S&H 171:6)”[51] This is why CHRISTIAN UNITY is a circle – it is the “open door to heaven” while THE WAY of Christian Science helps us ascend to Science itself.
“[Star]Gate 10 – ZEBULUN. The third descending Tribal-Angel is ZEBULUN, its point of Life…Zebulun means ‘dwelling’ on earth and spiritual organization. Thus Zebulun types the city foursquare which is tenth in the order of the practice of Christian Science and embraces the twelve Tribal [Star]Gates, which were prophesied to descend to earth with the message of ‘a new heaven and anew earth’ and ‘no more sea.’ (Revelation 21:1).
“The message of ‘no more sea’ dissipates entirely the evening consciousness of DAN [animal magnetism] as the fifth Tribal Angel and as the tempest-tossed sea with its restless delving denizens, or material organization. Mrs. Eddy’s interpretation of ‘sea’ as a ‘symbol of tempest-tossed human concepts advancing and receding,’ dissipates the ‘sea’ as a human symbol of error; and thus since the ‘tempest-tossed’ sea is given no identity as spiritual idea, it is irredeemable to spiritual consciousness, but dissipated in line with St. John’s dissipation of the ‘sea’ before the ‘new heaven’ and ‘new earth’ could be manifested. The only promise Jesus gave to the fifth church, the Church of Sardis, typing DAN, was that of ‘white raiment’ to the worthy, typed by the Woman in white [in CHRISTIAN UNITY] and more impersonally typed by the white dove in [THE WAY]. The Church of Sardis, Jesus stated, is ‘he that hath the seven Spirits’; and, ‘the seven stars’ type the demands which Dan’s ‘fowl of the air’ that soared above and beyond corporeality to the understanding of the incorporeal and divine Principle, Love, placed upon Dan to the end of its (the fowl’s) redemption to a pearly thought-gate. In the descending city foursquare at this step, Zebulun appears as the all-white bird-expression in flight. Eventually the Church of Sardis yields to absolute Christian Science, and is found worthy.”[52]
“{Star}Gate 11 – JOSEPH. Thus the JOSEPH element in Zebulun represents the composite descent of the city foursquare to earth embracing all the gates up to eleven, and is the eleventh stage in the order of Christian Science. Joseph dissipates the divided JUDAH as in the fourth {Stargate}]…The Tribe of Judah, which manifests as the ‘firmament’ between heaven and earth, in which was set in motion the sun, moon, and stars (Sacred Stellar Lore or Tribal Wheel) as distinctive ideas to give light upon the earth until this generic dissipation by the JOSEPH element in ZEBULUN with its heavenly Light, says to earth: ‘The city….[has no] need of the sun, neither of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God [does] lighten it, and the Lamb [idea] is the light thereof.’ (Revelation 21:23)
“So the Church of Thyatira, by dissipating the division – that firmament – between heaven and earth, with generic Truth and with the light of Love, lets through to earth the forthcoming light of BENJAMIN (the twelfth Tribal-Angel) as typing generic Light – to mankind. Thus Jesus’ promise is fulfilled in Thyatira, translated as: ‘…and I will give him the morning star’ (Revelation 2:26-28)…in twelve, Benjamin.”[53]
When we get to Benjamin (our final Illustration of the STAR itself), we find the seven stars (as the BIG DIPPER KEYSTONE) are also flowers, so they have the union of Truth and Love – or generic Light as the MORNING STAR – all for one and one for all = All is One and One is manifested in all.
“{Star}Gate 12 – BENJAMIN. The fifth descending Tribal-Angel {is Benjamin, son of my right hand (the Spirit of the law)}. Thus Zebulun embracingly descends to BENJAMIN. This fifth descent redeems LEVI of our third ascending {Major Stargate}, as earth’s ecclesiastically formed-binding Tribe, that erected its sectarian church walls and divided generic man into men. As this point Zebulun, through its Benjamin {Star}gate-quality gathers all men into the common Church-idea within the jewel-garnished walls of the city foursquare as the Bride. This twelfth stage in the order of Christian Science, and as its last descending step in Church consciousness, reaches and redeems the limitation of LEVI as a first step in objective Church consciousness, or the point where Mrs. Eddy objectively shared her subjective revelation with Church or with the ecclesiastically dominated consciousness when she wrote the first edition of SCIENCE AND HEALTH.
“This Benjamin element in Zebulun as the fifth descending angel, fulfills Jesus’ promise to the third church, the Church of Pergamos.
“It should be noted that Jesus spoke to this Church of Pergamos as ‘he which hath the sharp sword with two edges’ (Revelation 2:12) going ‘out of his mouth’ (Revelation 1:16). This sword which went out of the mouth of the ‘Word of God’ is manhood looking like woman after the marriage of the Bride and the Lamb [idea] in heaven (Revelation 19:13-15) as in the ninth illustration.
“At this point we have completed the Bridal descent – redeeming the WORD as absolute CHRISTIAN SCIENCE {as depicted in CHRISTIAN SCIENCE as the scroll}, at the point of five churches embracing the ascending labor of the seventh Day-Love identified through the operation of the third Day of Creation-Soul, in this Stellar Journey. We leave two additional descending footsteps beyond church on earth to the compound idea.”[54]
Really, this is only our eighth step, the second son of Leah’s handmaid servant, “‘This final fourteenth step might be likened to Abraham’s partaking of the communion administered by the priest of Melchizedek [which priest we encountered in studying the seventh illustration] Genesis 14:18. “Twelve years they [the five kings, or five corporeal senses] served Chedorlaomer [meaning sheaf-band – wheat bond together as bound by the sheaf-band of Church]. In the thirteenth year they rebelled [progressively burst the church bonds typing the city foursquare, which had at this stage expanded to the point of ‘no temple therein’ typed by JOSEPH in thirteen]. In the fourteenth year [typed by BENJAMIN and REUBEN, one] …Melchi-zedek…brought forth bread and wine.’
“‘Thus the order of Melchi-zedek blesses Abraham in whose loins were the full twelve Tribes of Israel; for St. Paul says of LEVI [Church of Pergamos] ‘for he was yet in the loins of his father [Abraham] when Melchi-zedek met him’ (Hebrew 7:10). Thus Abraham typed the spiritual consciousness behind the ‘tree of life,’ which was symbolized by Jacob and his twelve sons, the latter typing the twelve manner of fruits, of which REUBEN ‘eats for all mankind.’
“‘So REUBEN becomes “the only” as the beginning in which heaven and earth is one; for the Bible says: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” S&H 502:24’ (See As It Is)”[55]
We should include Mary Baker Eddy’s definition of “Day”, where generic Light is symbolized “as the only or first Day consciousness. She states on page 503:20 of SCIENCE AND HEALTH:
“‘Immortal and divine Mind presents the idea of God: first, in light; second, in reflection; third, in spiritual and immortal forms of beauty and goodness.’ (Emphasis added.)
“Doesn’t this absolutely and definitely describe the transformed concepts which we have experienced in our Christ and Christmas Journey?”[56]
Ingeborg now returns to the first version of THE WAY, of 1893. “Showing slightly to the right of our visual center line, in free form, is a picture of a man, … releasing a white dove to earth … In back of him, covering one-third of this design, are hundreds {an exaggeration} of transparent faces in song. On the ground, which is shown by a meadow of grey, there are seven bushes in full foliage. In the dim background we see a misty human structure. We must not forget that the bird on the left-hand side of the cross-bar is white. At the opposite end a bird sits that is mostly white, but for its grey head; there are two other birds on this same side of the cross; there is one black bird in flight underneath this cross-bar; on the top of the cross sit two birds, one grey and one black. Above this, going to meet the white dove, are two black ones in flight.
“Spiritually interpreted, the descending white dove or Bride – ZEBULUN{-DINAH} – carries a message of divine, incorporeal Love. The dove Mrs. Eddy defines as ‘divine Science’. The tree at the left of the cross typifies the golden candlestick stemming from the Age of Gold and refers as well to the Science order of the seven divine terms for God in this Age of Aquarius.”[57]
I find it hard to decipher seven bushes; perhaps if I could see the picture blown up I might agree.
“The bird on the left-hand side of the cross types the weight of the crucifixion {her opinion?}. The first bird of the three on the right-hand side types Levi, ecclesiastical despotism yielding now to universal structure. (S&H 590:11) The middle bird is DAN, and types the demands for self-judgment, which alone intelligently meets animal magnetism. (S&H 583:26) The third bird is ISSACHAR, typing the ultimate spiritual compensation of ASHER (time and the senses translated) after it has reached its heavenly ‘crown’ in ‘Extension.’”[58]
Is this cross actually crowned with the two birds (Tribes) sitting on top of the cross? What this cross really could symbolize (in my opinion) is the + of the city of our God – Christian Science with its four cardinal points of North (the Word), East (the Christ, South (Christianity), and West (Science). This cross wants to break free from the walls of the city foursquare (x). But this cross, in the first version, is still buried in the ground, unable to ascend as it is depicted in the second version of THE WAY. Ingeborg is now moving on to the second version of THE WAY.
“It is legend now, the fact that Mrs. Eddy felt she had to alter this last illustration. The Field was not ready to move from the first rendered embellished cross of resurrection to self-revelation. Therefore, she substituted the new illustration showing the two crosses and the crown, through which the narrow critical path of Light leads to the point of self-translation. All of the illustrations in Christ and Christmas are but types and shadows of their true meaning. The black cross represents the human church expanding and translating its limited understanding of the WORD, CHRIST, CHRISTIANITY, and SCIENCE to become the male/female one of God’s only creation. The garlanded cross – second in the line of light – where the spatial-temporal is translated in extension, responds to the message of the white dove, carrying the branch representing the leaves of the tree of individual thought, and fulfilling the divine purpose of Motherhood yielding to the bridal crown of Holy Purpose, all embraced in the descending beam of divine Life. There are seven leaves on the olive branch, which symbolize the descending city foursquare, introducing the light and glory of divine Science.”[59] The city foursquare and divine Science are symbolized (by me) as the x, or the four cornered edges of a pyramid structure, while the city of our God and Christian Science are symbolized (by me) as the +, the four cardinal points of the divine infinite calculus.
“In this picture the garlanded serpent’s head at the foot of the black cross (which is not clearly seen) signifies that ominous human characteristic that fools us into meeting error with error. This is fatal to the Science of Christ, and unless demonstrated, transforming that serpent tail into a rod or schoolmaster, will obstruct the victorious accomplishment of the spontaneity and instantaneity of the operation of this divine System.
“As in the beginning of our Journey, this image has re-illustrated the ‘grim night of chaos’ and is our last look at separated zones before total scientific translation, heaven and earth one, or, the subjective and objective become the I AM – ‘man a celestial’, appears.
“The stagnant water on the right-hand side of our illustration translates the Pharisaical despot with its dragon’s tail. The Woman looking over the scene in the first illustration {STAR OF BETHLEHEM} IS NOW ‘THE CROWNED’. The CHRIST-IANITY side of our illustration has resurrected the Babylonish woman of lust in the first picture and has left nothing but shadowed mass, so to speak, as the ‘dust to dust’ fable.
“The left-hand side of the illustration is symbolic of the translation of the signs of the Zodiac or the Tribes. The diffused head of a woman is seen coming out of the ground – although not drowned by the stagnant waters – but burdened with the bounded Branch thought not yet yielding to divine Light.”[60] I wish that she had explained things better. I want to think that she knows what she is talking about, however, she seems to put out these ideas without any explanation as to why she is making these claims! Why does she say this and that without giving any explanation to it?
“In part, our story in Christ and Christmas is divine Science exposing the ecclesiastical despotism or static thought of to-day’s so-called Christian Scientist. It endeavors to lead ‘the way’ back again to meeting divinity as one in ‘Him glorified’.
“The Orgain Manual story in this 15th step states: ‘Let the dead bury their dead’, and is the heading for the 75th Manual in 1909. From Luke 9:59-60:
“‘And he [the Lord] said unto another [the dead], “Follow me”; but he [the dead student] said, “Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father’ [personal sense]. Jesus said unto him, ‘Let the dead [senses] bury their dead, but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.”’ (Emphasis added.)
“In other words, let go self and let Principle, divine Light, guide you. Also: ‘He that loveth father and mother [personal senses] more than me is not worthy of me.’ (Matthew 10:37)
“How preposterous is it, that supposedly thinking subjects, approaching the ideas of divine Science, can possibly continue in the dead letter of the last two thousand years. Wake up! This is The Way!
“Mrs. Eddy says in Miscellaneous Writings (p. 355), under the title ‘The Way’:
“‘The present stage of progress in Christian Science presents two opposite aspects, – a full-orbed promise, and a gaunt want. The need, however, is not of the letter, but of the spirit.
“‘Less teaching and good healing is to-day the acme of “well done,” a healing that is not guesswork, – chronic recovery ebbing and flowing, – but [rather] instantaneous cure. This absolute demonstration of [through] Science must be revived [reinstated]. To consummate this desideratum, mortal mind must pass through three stages of growth.’
“These three stages, which we continually symbolize in Christ and Christmas through the gradations of light, from dark to white, appear again in another form of reference. To recapitulate them briefly, she states on page 358:14 of Miscellaneous Writings:
“‘[1] “Self-knowledge, [2] humility and [3] love are divine strength. Christ’s vestures are put on only when mortals are ‘washed in the blood [the black degree in the illustrations] of the Lamb’ [idea]; we must walk in the way Jesus marked out if we would reach the heaven-crowned summit of Christian Science.”
“On page 359:
“‘…The way is absolute divine Science; walk ye in it; but remember that Science is demonstrated by degrees, and our demonstration rises only as we rise in the scale of being‘ [above thinking and feeling]. (Emphasis added.)”[61]
“From James Gilman’s diary let us consider a few of his thoughts in regard to the development of this eleventh illustration.
“‘August 3rd, Thursday. The last illustration she said must be a representation of the ascension. We deliberated whether it would be best to have the central figure a woman or to represent Jesus. It was decided that the time had not quite come for the woman to be represented in such a picture. To be too fast in such a case with even one illustration would spoil the good affect of the whole work, Mrs. Eddy said.’”[62]
Gilman admits that the image of Jesus was a likeness of Truth and Love, or generic man.
Objection went out in regards to the first version of THE WAY, the scene was located in Concord, New Hampshire! Gilman wrote:
“‘I acknowledged to her that I myself had recently thought of that. But I said after a little, “I do not know that we need to go back to Jesus’ day in Palestine to represent this thought.” To this she quickly agreed. We retired to lunch, to which she led me like a child, skipping into the dining room, and resumed talking. “It was late in the month,” she stated, “but she should ask Judge Hanna to delay The Journal, which she believed he would.” The substance of the precious thought that she wanted was that Christian Science was a modern thought and was appropriately expressed in modern surroundings. She said, “There is too much looking backward two thousand years. They will find that there is a Way here in Concord as well as in Palestine.”’”[63]
In regard to the second version of THE WAY, Mary Baker Eddy wrote to Gilman: “It is to express the thought of the gradual ascension of mortals up from the dark level of material sense where the cross appears very dark and formidable, to the straight and narrow, but shining pathway that leads to the second cross. This second cross is found to be embosomed in flowering vines and the bright sunshine of heaven, about which song-birds make melody, all of which reveals the real attractiveness of the heavenly way. The second cross appearing now less formidable in the light that now illumines the spiritual pathway. Above and beyond is the crown, between which [the crown] and the second flower-embowered cross lies no obstacle to steady ascension from the material and mortal to the spiritual and eternal…The art of Science is but a higher spiritual suggestion that is not fully delineated nor expressed, but leaves the artist’s thought and the thoughts of those that look on it more rarified…”
This was in January 1897, then in April she decided to have a second version done for CHRISTIAN SCIENCE HEALING. “All clergymen may not understand the illustrations in ‘Christ and Christmas;’ or that these refer not to personality, but present the type and shadow of Truth’s appearing in the womanhood as well as in the manhood of God, our divine Father and Mother.” (Miscellaneous Writings, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 33:7)
“..Soul takes over and helps us to identify the new view of Christian Science. From these wondrous heights – above thinking and feeling – our divinely cultured being hears the music of the SPHERES, ‘the divine terms’ in full-orbed glory, or the visible majesty of the divine!
“‘The first concept of mortal mind one has got to get rid of is this thing that calls itself the material ‘you’. One just can’t accomplish anything until he or she begins to do this.’ (John Doorly.)
“We are no longer taking up the crosses of Moses and Jesus, but the crown of absolute divine Science!
“Remember, Jesus said: ‘Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.’ Well, that’s an obsolete statement to-day. The crosses of birth, maturity, and decay have been translated, and Science recognizes only virgo intacta, the divine idea of Principle as having never left its divinely fixed origin.”[64]
We are now finished with the four Stargates belonging to the two Christ Handmaidens and their sons (suns) of four. In Part E we begin with the squared-cycle of CHRISTIANITY. But first, I would like to present what Jacob’s Ladder may have really been like, as it follows to pattern of CHRISTIANITY.
In this diagram I have the Tribes being the spokes of the wheel, where we begin with Reuben and end with Reuben. This is the pattern for CHRISTIANITY (as depicted in the book of Esther) – beginning with the ascending of Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, and then we begin our descent through Truth, Life, Spirit, Soul, Mind, and end with Principle.
