            The following is from Volume 32, #4, summer 2019 THE BANNER by Andrew W. Hartsook.  Before I begin I would like to explain that Bliss Knapp was a personal student of Mary Baker Eddy’s.  He understood who she was and her place in Bible prophecy, and he never forgot it.  Unfortunately, the Board of Directors were not wanting the Truth about Mary Baker Eddy to be published by Knapp.   {My interpolations will be in this type of bracket.}

            The letter from the Board of Directors to Bliss Knapp (February 20, 1948) concerning his book, The Destiny of The Mother Church, has come to light after more than seventy years.  {However, Hartsook does not state where he gained access to this letter or where the letter is at.}  The letter states, “We are also quoting below just a few of them any references in the book to Mrs. Eddy and her place in {Bible} prophecy, which are not supported by statements in her published works or correspondence.”  {This last part is a lie.}  The letter refers to many specific passages which they believed should be revised or eliminated:  “Mr. Heitman has also informed us of your intention to delete the chapter entitled ‘The Woman,’ and the chapter entitled ‘Prophecy’ from any new printing of the book.  Such deletion is especially wise as it may prevent any criticism to the effect that you are endeavoring to interpret the book of Revelation.”  {And I ask, what is wrong with interpreting the book of Revelation?}  In addition, the letter recommends deletions or revisions for eight other statements considered problematic.  The letter concludes, “The book contains much interesting and useful information, and in the event of its being edited and revised acceptably to us, we will raise no further objections to your having the book published by someone other than The Christian Science Publishing Society, and advertised in The Christian Science Monitor.”  {I italicized the newspaper’s name here.}
            In the midst of the financial crisis created by John Hoagland’s ill-conceived Monitor television channel initiative and the hidden agenda of government intelligence agencies using the church as a cover, the Directors decided to publish Destiny of The Mother Church in 1991.[1]  To quote from the Winter 1996 Banner:  “The consensus among supporters and opponents of the Knapp book was that the Directors published it only to get the money from the Mabury sister’s trusts to bail them out of the financial disaster they had created by their headlong plunge into secular, electronic media projects.”
            Also from the Winter 1996 Banner:  “On October 4, 1995, the California Supreme Court refused to consider the appeal of the heirs of Bella Mabury challenging the agreement made by The Mother Church, Stanford University, and Museum Associates of Los Angeles to divide the money in the estates of Bella Mabury and her sister, Eloise Mabury Knapp.  As a result of the high court’s refusal to hear the case, the Mother Church will receive $55 million from the estates of these two sisters for publishing Destiny of The Mother Church by Bliss Knapp.
            “At the time that the Twentieth-Century Biographers Series was announced, it was the view of many that it was created as a smokescreen to obscure the publication of Destiny of The Mother Church by Bliss Knapp which the Directors of the church abhorred and which other prominent people in the field disliked.”  {These “other prominent people in the field” were the Board’s stooges.  They were also willing participants to bad mouth Bliss’s book to the Field within the Branch Churches.}
            Interestingly, the two disapproved chapters “The Woman”, and “Prophecy” as well as the eight problematic statements were all included unchanged in the version published by the C. S. Publishing Society in 1991.  {You may wonder why this is so?  The answer is because of the “other prominent people in the field” doing there bad mouthing within the Field, sewing the tares within the wheat – so to speak convinced many Christian Scientists to ignore the Bliss Knapp book when it came out, they would refuse to read it.  They used propaganda against the book to turn Christian Scientists away from the book.  In other words, the Church used FAKE NEWS!  So even though the Truth about Mary Baker Eddy was published, it was either not read by many or else when they reached those sections of the book they decided what was written to be full of error (evil) and lies about Mrs. Eddy (as they all call her) and Christian Science.  And part of their dirty deeds included the following…}

            The same year that the controversial Knapp book was published by the Publishing Society, the leaflet, Mrs. Eddy’s Place was disavowed by the Directors in a January 1991 letter to C. S. teachers:  “From time to time you may have been asked about the leaflet ‘Mrs. Eddy’s Place’ and whether there are any plans to reprint it.  While this statement prepared many years ago may have served a useful purpose at that time, it has not been reprinted for several decades, even though the subject has been thoughtfully weighed and considered by succeeding Boards of Directors.  It has become increasingly clear that items such as this leaflet could be seen to represent an ‘official’ statement or dogma, or even tend to supplant our Leader’s own writings as a guide to her place and position.”  {Really?  Do you see how the red dragon serpent lies and has manipulated Christian Scientists about Mary Baker Eddy?  This is the flood that it spews forth from his mouth in order to drown (kill) Mary Baker Eddy – the woman!}  Mrs. Eddy’s Place originally appeared in the June 5, 1943, Christian Science Sentinel.  {Mary Baker Eddy also hid, in plain sight, her place in Bible prophecy.  She hid it in symbols found within The First Church of Christ, Scientist (in Boston) and in her Illustrated Poem book Christ and Christmas.}

First Edition

            Considering the controversy stirred up by the publication of the Knapp book, Mrs. Eddy’s Place, by contrast, is a very sober and reasonable statement.  “…[A] committee of editors from 1938 to 1943 had compiled 57 typewritten pages of Mrs. Eddy’s own published and unpublished statements about her place in Bible prophecy.”  [Christian Science After 1910, p. 177 by the Banner editor.]  This statement is a counterbalance to the Knapp book, and one would think that its continued availability would have been a welcome correction.  A limited number of copies of this leaflet are available for the asking from the editor of The Banner.

            Considering all of the highly questionable decisions made by the Directors during the Hoagland/Monitor channel era, the following resolution might have seemed to them to be a protective cover:
            “As part of a resolution [August 6, 1993] signed by then clerk of The Mother Church, Olga Chafee, the board determined:  ‘IT IS NOW HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED that it is and has long been the determination of the Board both (a) that it is implicit in any decision of The Christian Science Board of Directors to take or refrain from taking any action that the taking or refraining from the taking of such action does not violate any provision of the Manual of The Mother Church [2]and (b) that no determination of The Christian Science Board of Directors at any time that purports to apply the provisions of the Manual of The Mother Church either (1) can or does prohibit or invalidate any action thereafter taken by The Christian Science Board of Directors or (2) can or does prohibit or invalidate any subsequent determination of The Christian Science Board of Directors purporting to apply the provisions of the Manual of The Mother Church in a different manner, whether such subsequent determination be explicit or implicit.” [Reprinted from Summer 2006 Banner.]  {Sounds like a bunch of gobbledygook (lawyer speak) to me!}

            This is the end of The Banner coverage for summer 2019.  So let us examine what really transpired over the years.
            A committee was hired to look into the topic of Mary Baker Eddy’s place in Bible prophecy.  This took place during a very dangerous time in human history (around World War II).   So it was of most importance that the Truth about Mary Baker Eddy came forth (the earth would help the woman).  The committee found enough information in her writings to corroborate the position that she did fulfill Bible prophecy, enough to fill up 57 typewritten pages – hardly insignificant or something that should be discounted.  And the then Board of Directors agreed upon the evidence of the report to print up the little 6-point leaflet Mrs. Eddy’s Place.  Over the years they claim to have literally lost the 57 paged report.  Now they do not even want to publish the leaflet and distribute it to Reading Rooms throughout the world.  Why would they want to, after all, they are afraid that in doing so it would make them look bad and take away their power or control of the Branch Churches.  Even though over the past fifty some years the number of Branch Churches, the number of teachers, and the number of practitioners has plummeted!
            To quote The Banner again, “Since the count began in February 1987, 1087 churches have closed and 83 have opened in the United States.”  Six churches have closed between April and July of this year alone.
            And this is all due to the fact that those members of The Mother Church (as they prefer to call it) have denied their Leader’s place in Bible prophecy!  They even deny her as their “Leader”!
            Bliss Knapp did not write anything wrong about Mary Baker Eddy in his book.  The Board of Directors knew this then and they know it today.  The only reason why they did not want Knapp’s book to be released to the Field is simple:  It spoke the Truth about Mary Baker Eddy and the hierarchy did not like it one bit!  They wanted to be in charge – forever – and they did not like the fact that Knapp’s book spoke the Truth about Mary Baker Eddy as the woman God-crowned (of Revelation 12).  Boston was simply afraid of loosing their hold and power over the Field!
            Communism crept into the church via one particular director and his best friend who took over The Monitor as its editor.  Thus, The Monitor became an international (meaning it became a communist) newspaper.  It began to support the one world order (through material government).  It would not promote divine Principle as Governor or as the only Government.  It would speak less and less about Mary Baker Eddy and Christian Science.  Instead it would support the United Nations and other one-world order types of government organizations (like the EU).
            The Mother Church (which wanted to continue on being a controlling Mother Board of Directors) would deny Mary Baker Eddy’s place in Bible prophecy, they would deny her as the woman God-crowned, they would deny her as the Second Coming of Christ because they were doing the works of the red dragon (who was wanting to kill the woman).  In the late 1980s they would produce (for cable TV) a biography about Mary Baker Eddy.  They put in many negative (and Roman Catholic) symbols.  They made Mary Baker Eddy look bad.  They also made her out to look like a little old gray haired woman with a shaky voice and old hands.  Some of the lines were changed from the televised version to the (not so) same program available in Reading Rooms.  Paul Smilley seemed to be the only Christian Scientist, at that time, who was awake to the propaganda (fake news) methods being utilized in the program.  He wrote a whole pamphlet on the topic.  He is also the one sounding the alarm about motives behind Destiny’s republishing.  He was not against the book being published, but he explained the negative motivation behind its publication (greed).  Boston made sure that the book was poisoned in the minds of the “church goers” before it even rolled off the presses.
            The results were that many Christian Scientists were afraid to purchase a copy of the book little loan read it!  Boston has made sure that anything they do not want read by the Field is to be labeled as taboo, and fear mongering is used to keep Christian Scientists away from reading such books.  Example:  John W. Doorly’s books and Doorly’s student’s books.
            Around 2001 many in the Church thought that Gillian Gill’s biography on Mary Baker Eddy was fantastic!  Some could not see how the biography attacked Mary Baker Eddy!  Or maybe they did see how the book attacked Mary Baker Eddy, but because Gill, a feminist, said so many good things about Mary Baker Eddy, that made the book all right in their opinion.  And it was acceptable, according to them, to have a non-Christian Scientist say bad things about Mary Baker Eddy so long as she said good things about Mary Baker Eddy.  Would these Christian Scientists have believed the same thing if the biography had been about Christ Jesus?  I wonder!  Would they have objected if such a biography would have called Jesus a tyrant towards his disciples?  Why how dare Jesus say to Peter, “Get thee behind me, Satan!”?  Perhaps, on its own in the open market Gill’s book would have been acceptable, what was not acceptable is that the Boston hierarchy promoted the book!  It was completely wrong that Boston promoted the book at all, little lone that they allowed it to be sold in the Christian Science Reading Rooms.  I did not buy the book I checked it out from the local library.
            Why am I such a stickler on this point that what Gill wrote about Mary Baker Eddy did not belong in Christian Science Reading Rooms, or why the Boston hierarchy should have never approved it?  Read the following:
            Revelation xii.  And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.  {Notice below that the Woman God-crowned Keystone, from WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK, matches the time depicted on the Grandmother’s Clock in SEEKING AND FINDING (seen above).}

True estimate of God’s messenger
            “Heaven represents harmony, and divine Science interprets the Principle of heavenly harmony.  The great miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and the grand necessity of existence is to gain the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man.  This goal is never reached while we hate our neighbor or entertain a false estimate of anyone whom God has appointed to voice His Word.  Again, without a correct sense of its highest visible idea {which would be Mary Baker Eddy during the Sixth and Seventh Days}, we can never understand the divine Principle.  The botanist must know the genus and species of a plant in order to classify it correctly.  As it is with things, so it is with persons.

Persecution harmful
            “Abuse of the motives and religion of St. Paul hid from view the apostle’s character, which made him equal to his great mission.  Persecution of all who have spoken something new and better of God has not only obscured the light of the ages, but has been fatal to the persecutors.  Why?  Because it has hid from them the true idea which has been presented.  To misunderstand Paul, was to be ignorant of the divine idea he taught.  Ignorance of the divine idea betrays at once a greater ignorance of the divine Principle of the idea — ignorance of Truth and Love.  The understanding of Truth and Love, the Principle which works out the ends of eternal good and destroys both faith in evil and the practice of evil, leads to the discernment of the divine idea.  {Abuse of the motives and religion of Mary Baker Eddy hides from view the woman’s character, which makes her equal to her great God-crowned mission…To misunderstand Mary Baker Eddy, is to  be ignorant of the divine idea she taught – divine Science.  Ignorance of the divine idea betrays at once a greater ignorance of the divine Principle of the idea — ignorance of Truth and Love.  The understanding of Truth and Love, the Principle which works out the ends of eternal good and destroys both faith in evil and the practice of evil, leads to the discernment of the divine idea instead of a persona.}

Espousals supernal
            “Agassiz, through his microscope, saw the sun in an egg at a point of so-called embryonic life.  Because of his more spiritual vision, St. John saw an ‘angel standing in the sun.’  {This means that the angel of Revelation 10, although described as being clothed with a cloud, is actually the woman God-crowned of Revelation 12, for she was clothed with the sun.}  The Revelator beheld the spiritual idea from the mount of vision.  Purity was the symbol of Life and Love.  The Revelator saw also the spiritual ideal as a woman clothed in light, a bride coming down from heaven {thus, the woman God-crowned is also the Lamb’s bride}, wedded to the Lamb of Love.  To John, ‘the bride’ and ‘the Lamb’ represented the correlation of divine Principle and spiritual idea, God and His {feminine} Christ, bringing harmony to earth.

Divinity and humanity
            “John saw the human and divine coincidence, shown in the man Jesus, as divinity embracing humanity in Life and its demonstration, — reducing to human perception and understanding the Life which is God.  In divine revelation, material and corporeal self-hood disappear, and the spiritual idea is understood.

Spiritual sunlight
            “The woman in the Apocalypse symbolizes generic man, the spiritual idea of God; she illustrates the coincidence of God and man as the divine Principle and divine idea.  The Revelator symbolizes Spirit by the sun.  The spiritual idea is clad with the radiance of spiritual Truth, and matter is put under her feet.  The light portrayed is really neither solar nor lunar, but spiritual Life, which is ‘the light of men.’  In the first chapter of the Fourth Gospel it is written, ‘There was a man sent from God…to bear witness of that Light.’

Spiritual idea revealed
            “John the Baptist prophesied the coming of the immaculate Jesus, and John saw in those days the spiritual idea as the Messiah, who would baptize with the Holy Ghost, — divine Science.  As Elias presented the idea of the fatherhood of God, which Jesus afterwards manifested, so the Revelator completed this figure with woman, typifying the spiritual idea of God’s motherhood {which would be Mary Baker Eddy}.  The moon is under her feet.  This idea reveals the universe as secondary and tributary to Spirit, from which the universe borrows its reflected light, substance, life, and intelligence.  {Mary Baker Eddy’s healing, which led to her discovery of Christian Science, took place in February 1866.  This month was supposed to have a full moon – but there was no full moon that month.  At the point of her healing her monthly blood cycle ceased.  There are TWELVE months per year.}

Spiritual idea crowned
            “The spiritual idea is crowned with twelve stars.  The twelve tribes of Israel with all mortals, — separated by belief from man’s divine origin and the true idea, — will through much tribulation yield to the activities of the divine Principle of man in the harmony of Science.  These are the stars in the crown of rejoicing.  They are the lamps in the spiritual heavens of the age, which show the workings of the spiritual idea by healing the sick and the sinning, and by manifesting the light which shines ‘unto the perfect day’ as the night of materialism wanes.” (S&H 560:6-562:21; {My interpolations.})
            Why does Mary Baker Eddy’s own church deny her so?  Again I turn to Scripture for the answer.

            Revelation xii. 3.  And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

The dragon as a type
            “Human sense may well marvel at discord, while, to a diviner sense, harmony is the real and discord the unreal.  We may well be astonished at sin, sickness, and death.  We may well be perplexed at human fear; and still more astounded at hatred, which lifts its hydra {water} head, showing its horns {of power} in the many inventions of evil.  But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?  {The serpent spoken of in Genesis grows into the red dragon of Revelation.}  The great red dragon {ecclesiastical despotism} symbolizes a lie, — the belief that substance, life, and intelligence can be material.  This dragon stands for the sum total of human error.  The ten horns of the dragon typify the belief that matter has power of its own, and that by means of an evil mind in matter the Ten Commandments can be broken.

The sting of the serpent
            “The Revelator lifts the veil from his embodiment of all evil, and beholds its awful character; but he also sees the nothingness of evil and the allness of God.  The Revelator sees that old serpent, whose name is devil or evil, holding untiring watch, that he may bite the heel of truth and seemingly impede the offspring {the Branch} of the spiritual idea {the woman God-crowned}, which is prolific in health, holiness, and immortality.” (S&H 562:29-563:22; {My interpolations.})

            Revelation xii. 13.  And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth {material law}, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

Apathy to occultism {that which is hidden}
            “The march of mind and of honest investigation will bring the hour when the people will chain, with fetters of some sort, the growing occultism of this period.  The present apathy as to the tendency of certain active yet unseen mental agencies will finally be shocked into another extreme mortal mood, — into human indignation; for one extreme follows another.” (S&H 569:29- 570:7; {My interpolations.})
            What has been hidden from the world?  It is the fact that Mary Baker Eddy is the Second Coming of Christ.  And so it is this idea of Truth about who Mary Baker Eddy really that error must drown (kill) with the red dragon’s flood of false propaganda (fake news) about the woman.  But, according to Revelation 12:16, the earth helps the woman by opening up “HER” mouth and swallowing up the flood of lies cast out from the dragon’s forked tongue of deception.
            “What if the old dragon should send forth a new flood to drown the Christ-ideal {Mary Baker Eddy}?  He can neither drown your voice with its roar, nor again sink the world into the deep waters of chaos and old night.  In this age the earth will help the woman; the spiritual idea will be understood.  Those ready for the blessing you impart will give thanks.  The waters will be pacified, and Christ will command the wave.” (S&H 570:18-25; {My interpolation.})

            It was on the last Sunday in July, 2019, that the Jehovah Witnesses came to my door and presented Scripture from Revelation – speaking about prophecy.  As they read about how the blind would see, the lame would walk, the dead would resurrect, I realized that prophecy had already come true via Christian Science, because of God’s Second Witness coming to Earth as Mary Baker Eddy!
