The following is a continuation from my last post Paul Smillie’s Twenty-fourth Question.  This post begins with the material from Paul R. Smillie’s book MARY BAKER EDDY (page 313). Mr. Smillie’s first edition book was written in the 1980’s and what he writes still holds true today. After this I will quote from one of Doris Grekel’s biographies on Mary Baker Eddy, some writings by Augusta E. Stetson, C.S.D., and then there is a quote by Mary Baker Eddy.  After this first group of footnotes are two more Augusta Stetson sections that I felt fit in with this post so I added them, you could say that they are post post.  They both have their own grouping of footnotes (I did an experiment, so they are a little different).   All of my interpolations will be in number group brackets.

     Our Leader {Mary Baker Eddy} tells us that she believes strictly in the Monroe Doctrine and our Constitution, and yet internationalists despise both of these documents. Do Christian Scientists understand the provisions in those two documents? She also tells us that Christian Science grows rapidly under the Constitution of our nation. (My. 200:1-3) What has happened, then, to our Constitution? Certainly Christian Science is not growing. There is very little love for our nation today and, sadly, most Christian Scientists seem to be the first to talk in favor of internationalism and one-world government. {Even The Christian Science Monitor is in favor of the United Nations, which was set up by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (a Progressive) in the 1940’s.   Perhaps the Christian Scientists that favor the United Nations believe that the one world order is the same order that Christian Science promises? But the two governments are completely different. How are they different? Well, the one world order type of government is completely and totally based upon material type of government by personal sense where socialism/communism plays a deep part while the true one world government is based upon Principle as governor. This later is spiritual government and it expects man to be self-governed, to have individual responsibility, love for one’s neighbor, and that there be genuine rights for women.} Internationalism has its origin in man’s love for control, and it is supported by simplistic thinkers who will not plumb the depths of this issue by studying Mrs. Eddy’s words on the subject, nor will they build on that solid {spiritual} foundation. Internationalism, filled with vacillation and indecision, stems from an unwillingness to take a stand for this nation and is ever ready to try any and all human methods to bring about peace. Socialism and internationalism are not political theories, they are forms of religious intellectualism that is void of wisdom and love. The clamor for world government, thus forfeiting the government of the United States, is a desire for the amalgamation of the worst with the best. This amalgamation would destroy Christian Science as it would eliminate its protection. {What this amalgamation really is happens to be the old world belief that the serpent brought forth when Adam ate the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good (the best) and evil (the worst). It is fornication of Spirit with matter.} In an unpublished letter to President McKinley’s wife, Mrs. Eddy wrote, “Foreign nations are allied but the United States stands alone in her glory.” (March 30, 1898)
     All masses and different classes must not be leveled in an animalistic, humanistic, way. In Miscellany Mrs. Eddy says:

     The Puritans possessed the motive of true religion, which, demonstrated on the Golden Rule, would have solved ere this the problem of religious liberty and human rights. It is “a consummation devoutly to be wished” that all nations shall speedily learn and practice the intermediate line of justice between the classes and masses of mankind, and thus exemplify in all things the universal equity of Christianity.
                              Miscellany 181:13

The terrible leveling process of humanistic socialism, communism, and internationalism is not the “equity of Christianity.” The “equity of Christianity” is found in its radical teachings of self-government, individual responsibility, love for one’s neighbor, and genuine women’s rights. These alone abolish classes and masses as no tenet of socialism can ever do. What we are discussing here is a feeble counterfeit of genuine Christianity, and it is only operating because Christian Scientists refuse to assert and demonstrate their spiritual individuality.

                                                God’s Provision

     Mrs. Eddy correlates America’s government with the welfare of Christian Science. Destroy our government and you destroy Christian Science, diminish the genuine nature of our government as it was founded, and you diminish the growth of genuine Christian Science. We are not advocating nationalism here. We are advocating love for the provision God has given for all of mankind’s growth and stability, and that provision is the nation of America and its government. Our love for God must be expressed, and we would have to call that love patriotism. {One of my aunts told me a story one time. It was hearsay, so I cannot prove that it was true, but I do believe it was true. There was an American soldier who overheard some Russian communists speaking and they said that the one thing they had to do, the most important thing they needed to do, was to destroy Christian Science. They knew that if they destroyed Christian Science that America could not stand.}
     In the Christian Science Sentinel Volume I, page 3, we read, “Rev. Mary Baker Eddy is more patriotic than many of her students. She keeps the stars and stripes waving over her residence at Concord. The flag also waves over the Concord church. It is likely that she sees more in this emblem of liberty than do her students.” (Oct. 5, 1898) Mrs. Eddy wrote, “As dutiful descendants of Puritans, let us lift their standard higher, rejoicing, as Paul did, that we are free born.” (No. 46:16) This nation was very important to our Leader. She saw that its Constitution was extremely important to the preservation of her religion, and that Christian Science would succeed and grow only under this Constitution.
     Mesmeric internationalism has made deep inroads into the Christian Science Movement. {Fact: When I was a child the editor of The Christian Science Monitor was a communist.} There were many discussions about the change in the Manual concerning the state law that was altered by the Board to allow citizens of the world, rather than only citizens of Massachusetts, hence only American citizens, to become members of the Board of Directors of The Mother Church. {See page 130’s editor’s note in regards to the preexisting footnote of the Church Manual. I wonder how many Christian Scientists today are even aware of this illegal change to God’s Law by material law?} Why did our Board go to the legislature of Massachusetts and ask them to change this law? The law, as Mrs. Eddy included it in her Manual, gave her a law for the chartering of her church, but also kept any church member, other than United States citizens, from being appointed to the Board of Directors. The Board sought to change this. Why would Mrs. Eddy want only Americans on the Board? Why, if she had wanted that law changed, would she not have done so herself? Could Mrs. Eddy have declared, “I only want Americans on the Board”? What would foreign governments have done to the free exercise of Christian Science in their lands? We can be assured that it was difficult enough for Christian Scientists in foreign lands without adding fuel to that fire. But why would Mrs. Eddy want only Americans to serve on the Board? The European, Oriental, and all other concepts of law and government are entirely different from American law and government. American law and government are based upon local self-government, a system uniquely American. The relation of The Mother Church to its branches is most similar to that of the American system of government. The government of the Manual, and that of our nation, are based upon similar principles of self-government. How could a Board member from a totalitarian or monarchial system, a society built around a class system, or national government based upon centralized church systems, form a just estimate of the Manual and not feel compelled to change it? The answer is he or she could not. He who knows nothing of the American system of government neither knows nor understands the unique form of government outlined in the Manual of The Mother Church.
     A pamphlet written in 1905 by Mr. Carol Norton, “The Christian Science Movement,” published by the Christian Science Publishing Society, details this parallel structure of the Manual with our system of political government. It states, “The relation of the branch churches to The Mother Church closely resembles that of the states of the American Union to the general government. A remarkable system of church polity[1] has thus been instituted by Mrs. Eddy on the basis of self-government in Christian Science.” Are you still absolutely sure that Mrs. Eddy would have wanted that By-Law in the Manual changed?
     {Let me pause at this instant to comment upon this paragraph. It is easy to understand after reading this that the reason why our government in Washington D. C. today believes that they must be a nanny-state government, or rather a mother. They are simply reflecting the mental attitude of today’s board of directors in Boston who believe that they must be the mother church to all the Branch churches!}
     Those who were raised with Episcopal, Roman Catholic, or centralized ecclesiastical beliefs, or those who come from monarchial, oriental or dictatorial governments, can in no way interpret the Manual from the view of local self-government, it is completely foreign to them. Now we can see why that state law was offensive to many in the Movement. (See Mis. 354:10.[2]) It stopped the myopic philosophy of those internationalists in our midst who were bent on seeing their primitive theories prosper at the expense of our God-given system of political and church government. Once again, we see that our Leader’s statements on government have gone unheeded. Many chose to take the portions of her writings that they agreed with and minimized those statements that would have made them change their political or social views. Those mesmerized by internationalism have changed a very important foundation stone in our Manual, and, by doing so, have produced an extremely dangerous situation within the Christian Science Movement. It is, again, nothing but disobedience to our Leader, a denial of her intent and purpose, a lack of love for her wise and unerring counsel. It cannot be stated emphatically that all problems in the world originate in the Christian Science Movement.
     Some may misinterpret the above statements as an attack upon our church and upon those in positions of trust, — it is not. It is an uncovering of malicious animal magnetism, that will enable Mrs. Eddy’s followers to handle the error, — and, if this is done, the purpose of the uncovering will be recognized. This is the only hope we might have for the future that, once uncovered, these problems will be dealt with honestly and intelligently. The problems are not out there; they are within the Movement, and can be traced to our own neglect and irresponsibility, to our own excusal of evil and finger-pointing at persons or groups of persons we might wish to blame. Each of us must be wiling to handle sin in ourselves, and to be responsible enough to point out and handle the sin in our patients and pupils, — to support the offices of trust in our organization with mental work and not just meaningless words. The uncovering must not turn our thoughts to blame and condemnation of others, but to a love that will bring obedience to God and to our Leader.

     {At this point I would like to bring into account some writings by Augusta E. Stetson. In my previous post – Paul Smillie’s Twenty-fourth Question – he mentions a separation between the tares and the wheat. I mention this fact because Augusta Stetson speaks of this in her article.
     First I would like to explain that Augusta was facing the same errors (some fifty-some years earlier) that Smillie speaks of and she metaphysically worked for the Field and the world. Mary Baker Eddy also worked for these same errors, for they are all rooted to animal magnetism. Our Leader recognized the fact that there was the one-world order mentality trying to manipulate world affairs and world governments as well as seep into the American consciousness unnoticed. She prayed every day for the world and she kept the evil at bay.
     I feel that after she was no longer in this material world that her most loyal student – Augusta Emma Stetson – took over the watch for her. I am beginning to think that the two noble women Sentinels that Mary Baker Eddy had placed upon the Christian Science Sentinel pointed to Mary Baker Eddy and Augusta Emma Stetson. However, this noble womanhood continues today via the Independent (those who are undivided from God) workers and those who are self-governed via divine Principle, and those who recognize Mary Baker Eddy’s place in Bible prophecy.
     After thinking upon this matter I decided to turn to Doris Grekel’s book The Forever Leader to look into the matter. In fact, a friend that I discussed this idea with, gave me the exact pages (322-328) that I needed to turn to! This chapter gives accounts of what took place in 1906, I am going to lay them out in a different manner in order to prove my point. However, let me first backtrack to the July and August of that year (pages 268, and 279-280).}

     A happy note appeared in the last Sentinel in July. Under the caption “Prophecy by Longfellow” in this July 28 issue was this note and poem: “The following interesting prophecy by the poet Longfellow appeared in the first number of the Atlantic Monthly. —Editor”

          Where’er a noble deed is wrought,
          Where’er is spoken a noble thought.
          Our heart in glad surprise
          To higher levels rise;
          Honor to those whose words and deeds
          Thus help us in our daily needs.
          And by their overflow
          Raise us from what is low.
          A lady with a lamp shall stand
          In the great history of our land,
          A noble type of good
          Heroic womanhood.

     When Mrs. Eddy read the July 28 Sentinel she penned by the torch design on the right-hand side of the front cover: “What if you put here the figure of a woman with a lamp in her hand? This would illustrate Longfellow’s lines in verse. See page 763.” On the left-hand side of the cover she wrote: “The same on this side.” She also penciled the last four lines of Longfellow’s poem on page 673, and sent this marked copy of the Sentinel to Editor McLellan. Three days later, on July 31, Mrs. Eddy wrote McLellan again:
          Beloved Student:
               You will accept my thanks for your kind acceptance of my proposition
          for the Sentinel.

     This was the beginning of the new cover design for the Sentinel soon to appear. {p. 268}

     …Lewis Strang had written to the Board of Trustees regarding the new cover for the Sentinel:
     I return the sketch for the cover of the Sentinel. Mrs. Eddy has examined it and endorses it. The only suggestion that she made is a different style of head-dress for the woman.

     On August 10 Strang wrote the Trustees again:
     Mrs. Eddy approves of the new arrangement of the head-dress. The only change that she suggests in the last design submitted is the omission of the C.S. seal—the cross and crown with “Heal the sick, raise the dead,” etc. She thinks that the effect without this will be more artistic. In fact, she is very much pleased with it.

     The Christian Science seal, the cross and crown encircled by the words “Heal the sick—Raise the dead—Cleanse the lepers—Cast out demons,” had been on the top of the first page of Volume I when it was first issued, without a cover, as the Christian Science Weekly. It was January 19, 1899, when Mrs. Eddy renamed the paper Sentinel and gave it the motto, “What I say unto you, I say unto all, Watch.” Both title and motto appeared for the first time on the front page of the next issue, that of January 26, 1899. The seal continued to be included on the front of each copy. The first cover design, which included the C. S. seal and the motto, had begun with Volume II in September, 1899 and had been used for seven years. This original cover had a torch on each side of the contents.
     Now, in 1906, the first issue of Volume IX of the Christian Science Sentinel appeared on September 1 with a very significant change.

     The poet had seen that —
          A lady with a lamp shall stand
          In the great history of our land,
          A noble type of good, —
          Heroic womanhood.

     The Discoverer had presented her discovery to the world. The Founder had established this discovery upon a firm foundation which the world could neither ignore nor destroy. And now, the time had come for the Leader, the “Lady with a Lamp,” to stand forth. Her loyal students had always looked upon her as the Leader, but now the fact of her leadership is being proclaimed to all the field. Every move the Leader made held great significance. The paper is still a Sentinel on guard, and the motto remains “Watch.” But why is the seal removed? The Leader often said something to silence or to satisfy mortal mind. In this case she said: “The effect without this will be more artistic.” That satisfied; but we know that the Forever Leader never did anything simply because it would be more artistic. Surely that was not her reason for removing the Christian Science seal from the Sentinel. What was her reason? {Pages 290-280}
     {The two women for the new cover design first appeared on Vol. IX, No. 1, September 1, 1906. We must ask this question also, “Why were their eyes shut?” Do their shut eyes relate, or correspond, to the eighth illustration in Christ and Christmas where the female practitioner’s eyes are shut?” And the third question, “Why are there two women instead of just one?”
     Doris Grekel’s question ends the chapter “I Have Risen.” The following chapter (33) is titled “The Dragon was Wroth.”}

From the beginning to the end the serpent pursues with hatred the spiritual idea. MARY BAKER EDDY (page 282)

     It had been on the thirty-first of October that Mrs. Eddy had written her trustees {of the Publishing Society} that she would like the Sentinel cover to be colored, but this had proved to be more difficult than it sounded. It was not accomplished until the issue of December 22 which her on December 21…
     …It was January, 1907, before both front and back covers were a light shade of blue, but the major changes appeared on December 22, 1906. The cover for that issue had been redesigned.

     The original “lady with the lamp,” with eyes closed, had appeared on each side of the Sentinel cover in September. The new design presents a more mature type of womanhood with eyes open. The pedestals (bearing Longfellow’s poem) on which the lady stands, are in turn standing on a solid foundation labeled THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE PUBLISHING SOCIETY.

     Early in the 1880’s Mrs. Eddy placed the Christian Science seal on the cover of Science and Health.
     When her Journal of Christian Science, “an independent family paper” founded in 1883, was renamed the Christian Science Journal and given a cover in April, 1885, the cross and crown seal was the central emblem of the cover design. And it continued to be prominently displayed on the Journal cover as long as Mrs. Eddy was here.
     This significant emblem also appeared on the front of the first issue of the Christian Science Weekly in September, 1898; and when the Weekly became the Sentinel the Christian Science seal continued to appear on the cover every week through August, 1906.
     Mary Baker Eddy had had a resurrective experience in 1866 which had taught her how to “Heal the Sic—Raise the Dead—Cleanse the Lepers—Cast out Demons.” The way was the cross glorified by the crown. She had taught this Way to all her students that they might go and do likewise; and she had epitomized this resurrective way in her Christian Science seal which she placed upon all her periodicals and all her writings with the exception of the Manual. {After December 3, 1910 the seal (of error) was placed upon the Church Manual by the materialistic board of directors in order to claim their copyrights to the Manual.}
     But Mary Baker Eddy was more than the Discoverer of Christian Science. Her discovery of Christian Science led her to the discovery and understanding of her own identity. She was God’s chosen witness {Sentinel}, the embodiment of the motherhood of God as Jesus was the embodiment of God’s fatherhood. God’s “two witnesses,” “the two olive trees,” “the two candlesticks,” were Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy exemplifying the manhood and womanhood of God. {Read Revelation 11:3, 7, 10-12}
     Jesus’ disciples knew his identity no more than did the disciples of Mary Baker Eddy know hers {Some of them did know and still do know.}. Following his resurrection Jesus talked at great length with two of his disciples on the road to Emmaus, “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27). He gave us a verbal picture of his identity. Mrs. Eddy, through her artist at the easel, James F. Gilman, gave us a visual picture of her identity.

The Holy Trinity seen as divine messengers (in the clouds).

The Holy Trinity seen as divine messengers (in the clouds).

     Jesus gave to the world the resurrection. But in the ascension he was out of their sight, even the sight of his own disciples. Mary Baker Eddy’s mission began where Jesus’ left off. From the time of her discovery her whole experience was resurrective. By the time of the dedication of The Mother Church Extension in the summer of 1906 the Woman had spent forty years in the wilderness, literally, from 1866 to 1906, and the resurrection which Jesus had inaugurated had been proclaimed and heard around the world. That marked the completion of her wilderness experience and of the resurrection era. {Mary Baker Eddy at this point is at the capstone of the Pyramid Matrix of Truth, she could physically go no higher, she would, from this point onward, need to spiritually ascend and travel through the Stargate Matrix.} The ascension era was beginning. Would her disciples be able to see her?
     In August of 1906 Mrs. Eddy had announced to the closest of her disciples, Augusta Stetson: “I have risen.” She is the Forever Leader to be followed, and she proclaimed this fact to those who have eyes to see, those who would be the “watchmen on the walls of Zion.” {Any true watchman must have their eyes open.} Once again she has given us a visual picture. The resurrective symbol, the Christian Science seal, was removed from her Sentinel and replaced by the “Lady with a Lamp,” the symbol of the Forever Leader. Is not the message clear that the Way beyond the resurrection into the ascension is to follow the Leader? There is one more message that would keep the true follower close to his Leader. When she asked her Trustees to remove the cross and crown from the new Sentinel cover in August, 1906, she wrote the following and had it hand delivered.

STATEMENT—To the Christian Science Board of Directors: No student of Christian Science shall occupy a position of trust or confidence in the Cause who does not daily declare the truth at least three times in his prayers for the well-being of his Leader, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, the Rev. Mary Baker G. Eddy.
     (Can the above be made a by-law in our Manual?)

     How many of those who profess to be the Woman’s followers today daily declare the truth about their Leader? Is this for her well-being or our own? Death will never be overcome until we rise above the resurrection era to the ascension era, and there is only one Way. “He that…climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber” (John 10:1).
     Augusta Stetson knew not the cost, but she was ready and willing in 1906 to follow her Leader into the Ascension era. This is a vital decision and a moment important for Truth. Are we ready and willing today to make this momentous decision and to heed our Leader’s words?

     The Christian Scientist who is faithful to this Cause and its Leader will reap rewards spiritual, and blessedness beyond the power of human thought to conceive. Will you join your Leader in this, refusing sensuality, animality, lust in any of its forms? Oh, dear ones, I know the cost and I know the joy. Will you, can you, rise in this moment important for Truth?[3]

     A letter from Augusta Stetson dated December 22 tells of one more of the Leader’s activities in December {of 1906}:

My precious Leader, Teacher, Guide and Mother in Israel:
     My gratitude fails to find expression in language. …I wonder if it is really true that this magnificent jeweled heart, right from God’s holy messenger, Love’s chosen love, is mine, or if I am dreaming. …
     The treasure is most exquisite, but the dearest of all the world to me…is the picture of the dear Mother and Leader within the heart. …
     I shall always wear this treasure as a reminder of the long years of your tireless care, your patient forbearance and love, your prayers and tears and toils for humanity and for me…

The Leader wrote Augusta on December 28:
     Thanks for your letters. The one before it sent to our press. It should be out in the Sentinel. So much is on the topic—all may not go as we wish; but God reigns and I love Him supremely and I try to love my enemies.
     Be strong, be wiser than serpents. Watch, pray, work, and God will work with you and make the evil less than before.
     Every trial of our faith should make us stronger, purer. Give my love to your dear students—comfort and support them.[4]

     {Is it so far of a stretch to think that the reason why there are two women on the cover of the Sentinel is because Mary Baker Eddy is one of them and her faithful student Augusta. who she instructs to “Watch.” is the other Sentinel depicted upon the cover?

Sentinel Cover

     The above is taken from a cover of a pamphlet that Paul R. Smillie published in the 1980’s.  Where we see the words, “‘What I say unto you, I say unto all…Watch’ Jesus” is where Mary Baker Eddy had place “The Christian Science Publishing Society.”
     Now to begin with SERMONS Which Spiritually Interpret the Scriptures AND OTHER WRITINGS on Christian Science by AUGUSTA E. STETSON, C.S.D. Here (beginning on page 673 of her book) Augusta speaks about the League of Nations and she gives a sound warning against it. Our country voted against joining this League, but later on, our citizens were fooled and taken in – and the United States of America wound up being a main member of the United Nations. Evidently, there were no Christian Science Sentinels to sound the clarion warning!
     Augusta’s article, published in October 1922, begins with quotes before her article on page 674.}

The words of Washington, the father of our country, are becoming audible:
     Let us raise a standard to which the wise and the honest can repair; the event is in the hand of God.[5]

James Monroe, in the immortal Monroe Doctrine, declared:
     We should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system [the politico-religious system of Europe] to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety.

Abraham Lincoln, the emancipator of the physical slave, lives, and his words reverberate through the universe:
     This nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom;…government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth.[6]

The poet asks:
          Abraham Lincoln, how came your power
          Of setting Fate’s clock to the stoke of Time’s hour?

          (Lincoln): “In the quiet of prayer, was the world set apart,
          The better to hear the tick of God’s heart.”[7]

     When ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass.
     Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
     And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
     For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
     And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
     And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power a great glory.
     Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. — Christ Jesus. (Luke xxi., 9, 10, 11, 22, 25-27, 36.)

     Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is the antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. — John. (I. John ii., 18, 22.)

     But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat {sounds like an atomic bomb}, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
     Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. — Peter. (II. Peter iii., 10, 13.)

     Eternal truth is changing the universe. As mortals drop off their mental swaddling-clothes, thought expands into expression. “Let there be light,” is the perpetual demand of Truth and Love, changing chaos into order and discord into the music of the spheres.

     The thunder of Sinai and the Sermon on the Mount are pursuing and will overtake the ages, rebuking in their course all error and proclaiming the kingdom of heaven on earth.

     As the mythology of pagan Rome has yielded to a more spiritual idea of Deity, so will our material theories yield to spiritual ideas, until the finite gives place to the infinite sickness to health, sin to holiness, and God’s kingdom comes “in earth, as it is in heaven.”

     The question, “What is Truth,” convulses the world.
     Peals that should startle the slumbering thought from its erroneous dream are partially unheeded; but the last trump has not sounded, or this would not be so. Marvels, calamities, and sin will much more abound as truth urges upon mortals its resisted claims; but the awful daring of sin destroys sin, and foreshadows the triumph of truth. God will overturn, until “He come whose right it is.”—Mary Baker Eddy. (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 255, 174, 339, 223.)

         STRIDES OF GOD.”[8]

Christian Americans Resist the Effort of the
     Enemy of Democracy to Draw Them Out
     from Their Own Country, Back into a
     “League of Nations,” from which, in 1776,
     America Freed Herself

     The second appearing of Christ, the Son of God, who is to rule all nations and establish the kingdom of God, the reign of righteousness on earth, is at hand. The prophecy of Isaiah is near fulfilment:

Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
                               (Isaiah ix., 6.)

     Christ’s imminence is apparent to all who are able to interpret spiritually the events of 1914 and the succeeding years of warfare, and who are looking for the fulfillment of the promise of Christ Jesus that he would come again. Paul believed Christ’s promise, and recorded his statement, “Unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin {not born into a material body} unto salvation.”[9]

     {At this point she quotes Christ Jesus from Matthew xiii., 24-26; 28-30. This Scripture is about a man who sows good seed (the woman’s remnant seed) in his field (Christian Science Field of workers). While the men sleep his enemy (the red dragon of ecclesiastical despotism?) comes and sows tares. Could it be that this sleep is a mesmeric sleep, the Adam dream? These tares (wrong thoughts) must grow along side the wheat until harvest. Then the tares shall be bound and burned, while the wheat is gathered into the man’s barn. Augusta continues with:}

     Christ has thrust in the sickle. These are the latter days, the time of harvest, in which the tares are being bundled to be burned, while the wheat are being garnered into heavenly places. The tares represent all who have not recognized and acknowledged Christ as the Son of God, also all who for ages have bowed the knee to anti-Christ. At his first appearing, Christ Jesus proclaimed God as the only creator, and the universe, from the infinitesimal to the infinite, as His work, His body, the manifestation of His eternal self-existence. The Principle of being is the I am, who spoke, or commanded through His mouthpiece, the prophet, “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.”[10] Christ testified of his sonship with the Father and avowed, “The Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works.”[11]

     {I would like to include a letter that Mary Baker Eddy wrote to Augusta Stetson around 1900, as found in Doris Grekel’s book (page 271) The Forever Leader. It makes clear as to what the Christ really is. There is a paragraph before the letter begins.}

     There were many times when Augusta Stetson did not understand Mrs. Eddy, but many years earlier Mind had revealed to Mrs. Stetson that Mary Baker Eddy was the manifestation of the Second Coming of the Christ. For that reason she was able to follow implicitly and to accept unhesitatingly whatever the Leader said, whether she understood it or not and regardless of how much the human mind might rebel. However, the world was not ready for the revelation that had come to Augusta, and the Leader had had to caution her in this regard. Although the revelation was true, Augusta’s comprehension had to grow up to that truth, for she idd not always properly distinguish between corporeality and spirituality. Nearly six years earlier the Leader had written:

Darling Augusta, my precious child:
     I will have you come to me and try to set you just right on this question once more. M.a.m. is darkening the thought on this in two ways, 1st, to make all students turn from taking my advice and strike out blindly on their own from judgment of spiritual things.
     The 2nd is to make them believe and say I am the Christ. Now dearest one, I have denied this privately and publicly and charged you not to say it so many times. …I love you for your faithful work in the field. But darling, you injure the cause and disobey me in thinking that I am Christ or saying such a thing. And m.a.m. is causing you to do this. Read my books on this subject and you will find I always explain Christ as the invisible and never corporeal. Jesus was a man corporeal. Christ was, is, and forever will be the Holy Ghost, or in scientific phrase, the spiritual idea of God.
     I am corporeal to the senses even as Paul was. But God has anointed me to do His work, to reveal His Word, to lead His people. And your faithful adherence to my directions and love for me, has caused you to prosper in the field even as you have. Now never again, I implore you, get the Trinity wrong in what you teach. Jesus was the man that was a prophet and the best and greatest man that ever has appeared on earth, but Jesus was not Christ, for Christ is the spiritual individual that the eye cannot see. Jesus was called Christ only in the sense that you say, a Godlike man. I am only a Godlike woman, God-anointed, and I have done a work that none others could do. As Paul was not understood, and Jesus was not understood at the time they taught and demonstrated, so I am not. As following them and obeying them blessed all who did thus—so obeying me and following faithfully blesses all who do this.
     Now, darling, never again misinterpret Christ or the visible.

     Now to continue with Augusta’s article.}

     At his first appearing, Christ Jesus triumphed over the enemy of God, the sin-god, or the carnal man, whose wages is so-called death. “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”[12] The first-born of Spirit, the Son of God, was crucified because of his declaration that there is but one creator, the eternal I am, Spirit, Mind, whose universe, or body, composed of spiritual ideas, — or God’s man, whom He made in His own “image” and “likeness,”—is eternal. The demonstrator of God’s omnipotence and omnipresence, the Truth-man who voiced the Principle of being, eternal Life and Love, was crucified by those who believed in material generation, which emanates from sexuality and sensuality, the Adam-Eve dream-creation, whose embodied material senses come up in the morning and finally go out in darkness, so-called death. This sin or pseudo mentality, masquerading as man, is opposed to God’s man and universe and is doomed to self-extinction. Paul distinguished between the carnal so-called man and the spiritual man in the following words:
     The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
     But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
     For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
     The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans viii., 7, 9, 14; vi., 23.)

     Anti-Christ is the enemy of God’s man and universe, “the accuser of our brethren…which accused them before our God day and night.”[13] The present contention between the mental forces of good and evil, the conflict between Christ and “the dragon and his angels,” is prophetic of the self-extinction of all that opposes Christ, Truth.
     God controls His ideas, or children, under His law of eternal Life, Love, and immutable Truth. The I am, the eternal Spirit or Mind, God, and His spiritual creation —and there is no other, for God is infinite, All, — is described in the first chapter of Genesis, in which all that God created is good, the emanation of His divine selfhood. The spiritual, individual, immortal man and immortal universe can never be separated from Principle, God, Mind, Spirit, eternal Life and Love. This is the Science of being, which Jesus demonstrated, and it is as workable as the science of mathematics or music, which must be practised according to the law governing numbers, or tones, rhythm, melody, and harmony.
     The imminence of Christ’s second appearing, in the events of 1914, was apparent to all whose spiritual development enabled them to read the “signs of the times.” Jesus said to the Pharisees and Sadducees, “O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”[14] In this hour Jesus’ denunciation applies to the Pharisees and Sadducees of to-day, who cannot discern the “signs of the times”—the reappearance of Christ, in verification of his promise to his followers, “I will come again.”[15] In 1914 the fulfillment of his mission was apparent, as imparted in the words of God to His prophet:

     I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it… until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.
                              (Ezekiel xxi., 27.)

     John, the faithful disciple, foretold this hour—the final doom of the material so-called man, who is “conceived in sin and brought forth in iniquity.” His denunciation of the materialists has rung down the ages:
     Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
                              (Revelation xii., 12.)

     This beloved disciple of Christ presaged the conflict between the Son of God and the dragon; and the twentieth century disciple of the Way-shower to eternal Life, who, through spiritual illumination, has begun to awake from the Adam-dream of life and intelligence in matter, discerned the signs of the times in the beginning of the final combat in 1914.[16] The evil forces which compose the Adam-man, to whom Paul referred when he said, “As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive,”[17]— these evil forces, malice, hate, revenge, lust, greed, avarice, envy, jealousy, human will, pride of place and power, are the tares, or mental qualities of the so-called carnal man, that are ripening for self-annihilation.
     The horrors of those dreadful years of carnage which began in 1914, the war with anti-Christ, confirmed John’s prophetic vision of the final battle between truth and the lied and liars, whom Jesus condemned in his denunciation of his accusers and oppressors:
     Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John viii., 44.)

     Christ Jesus averred, “And I, if I be lifted up…will draw all men unto me.”[18] God, through His Christ, impelled the Norseman, Leif Ericson, to come out from under the yoke of oppressors, or the reign of autocracy and pagan idolaters, and led him in the year 1000, to virgin soil, America, — the land to which the invisible Christ was drawing all who were ready to respond to his summons, and who accepted and obeyed him as their Exemplar and Shepherd. Leif Ericson, the discoverer of America and the Norse colonists of 1000-1347; the Pilgrims of 1620; the Huguenots and Walloons of 1624, and all the Christian pioneers who followed, came out from among the tares, from those who subscribed to “the divine right of kings,” from all who accepted and were governed by pagan philosophy, and from such as once crucified Christ Jesus, the first-born of Spirit. These opposers of Christ would not acknowledge him as the Son of God, and although Christ continued to prove by his mighty works that he was endowed with divine power to execute the law of God, his enemies cried, “Crucify him!” Jesus said to them, “Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?”[19] Yet they continued to deny his sonship and nailed him to the cross. They hoped to extinguish the life of that representative man of Spirit, whose existence is an emanation of eternal Life and Love, the creative Principle of being.
     Christ, the Son of God, endowed with the power of Omnipotence, appeared on earth to awaken the dreamers from their mesmeric sleep, the hypnotic lie, the belief of life, truth, and intelligence in matter, —material birth, growth, maturity, and decay, —and to redeem humanity from bondage to anti-Christ. Throughout the Scriptures, Jesus denounced the carnal mind and its phenomena, — sin, sickness, and the illusion of death. At Christ’s first appearing, he proved his teaching and came forth from the tomb, crowned with the glory of immortality, his oneness with eternal Life, who he declared was his Father, the source of his being and the Author of his mighty works.
     During his earthly mission he had destroyed the false claim of a power opposed to eternal Life, God, for others, and had executed the law of God in the raising of Lazarus from his dream of death; in the calming of the angry waves, which were the phenomena of the fear that was controlling his disciples; in the feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fishes; in the lesson which he taught Peter, when he sent him to the fish’s mouth for the money with which to pay his taxes, and in his continual proofs of the power of his divine selfhood, as the executor of the law of God; and at last having met the foe, the enemy of God, in a combat on the cross, he triumphed over the materialists’ claim to life, truth, intelligence, and substance in matter.
     …The true American, inspired by God and His Christ, knows that America was founded upon spiritual ideas and that her ideals must be defended and preserved. America must free herself from theocratic autocracy and pagan philosophy. It was in America, in 1866, that the voice of Christ was again heard by his disciples of this age,[20] “Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end.” Through years of consecration to his teaching and the study of the Word of God, as imparted to His prophets, from Moses to John the Revelator, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, awoke to the presence of the Christ. She discerned the Science of eternal being, man’s oneness with his Maker, and gave to the world the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

     The foam and fury of illegitimate living and of fearful and doleful dying should disappear on the shore of time; then the waves of sin, sorrow, and death beat in vain. (p. 203.)

     The wheat of God, the followers of Christ, are not disturbed by the chaos of mortal mind, which foreshadows “the cosmos of immortal Mind,”[21] nor by war, famine, and pestilence, which fulfil the prophecy contained in the Word of God, the Holy Bible, and which is interpreted in the “Key to the Scriptures,” Science and Health. Our nation, America, is in travail. She is struggling to free herself from the presence of the invader, “the accuser,” and the oppressor, whose autocratic human will is opposed to the divine will, upon which Christ founded America. The fruits of obedience to God’s will are apparent in the phenomenal prosperity to which America has attained. When Americans bring all their “tithes into the storehouse,” the promise of God will be fulfilled: “I will…pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”[22]
     Christ, God’s vicegerent, is on the field, keeping watch above his own. All who possess the Mind of Christ are assured of his presence and are sustained by his protection power. The travail, the birth throes, will continue, until everything that “worketh…or maketh a lie,”[23] until all who are under the yoke of human despotism, bondage to the mental elements of the carnal mind, — hate, greed avarice, envy, lust of the flesh and pride of human power; until all who pay obeisance to “the divine right of kings,” and persist in endeavoring to serve two gods; until all who live in the Adam-dream of life and intelligence in so-called matter, with its pains and pleasures; I repeat, the travail will continue until all these shall be expelled from the land of the redeemed, or Christ’s domain.
     The bundling of all tares will be finally manifest. At length every knee throughout the world will bend tof the omnipotent creator, eternal Life and Love, and Christ, the “King of kings, and Lord of lords,”[24] will rule all nations under the law of righteousness. John the Revelator gives a full description of this imminent cataclysm, the final conflagration, the “consuming fire” of God, or the burning prophesied throughout the Bible:
     Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen.

     …Babylon [chaos and confusion, of which the Arab nations come out from] typifies the multitudes of the worshippers of anti-Christ, all who are without understanding [Christian Science], who deny, or rebel against the law of Life and Love, which Christ, the Son of God, executes.
     The meekness which gave Christ his mighty power was attained by Mary Baker Eddy, when throughout her writings she condemned carnality and sensuality and rebuked it under every mask; and the followers of Christ in this age are striving to possess that Mind which was in him, that they may continue to fulfil the law of love for God and man and free our nation from those whom Christ denounced when he declared:

     Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
     Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? (Matthew xxiii., 27, 33.)

     On the cross Christ triumphed over the dream, — death. History records but “one death-grapple…’twixt old systems and the Word;’”[25] but history will record another. A second death-grapple between human autocracy, pagan philosophy, and Christ, or the Word of God, is strikingly apparent, even to those who possess but in a small degree the Mind of Christ. The power of the Son of God over the mythical so-called mortal man and his claim to life and intelligence in matter is near a final demonstration.
     Pagan nations and all who are under “the divine right of kings,” human autocracy; all who are swayed by the evil mental qualities, hate, malice, greed, lust, revenge, avarice, personal ambition, arrogant human pride, human will; all peoples who oppose the will of God and His Christ—these tares fanned themselves into fury in 1914 to preserve the reign of anti-Christ, and to wage further war with Christ and with them that are Christ’s. {Likewise, the same repeated in World War II what with Mussolini and Hitler claiming to be leaders of the world. These two types of thought belong to the anti-Christ. The communist leaders were not much better and today’s Muslim terrorist groups are rooted to Hitler’s Nazi philosophy.}
     The mythical dragon and his hosts continue to contend for supremacy. They are resolved to occupy Christ’s domain, America; but they are meeting the resistance of the invisible Christ and the innumerable hosts of his invisible disciples, from Moses to this hour — for man is immortal, there is no death; and these hosts, together with his followers of to-day, he bids, “Occupy till I appear.” Christian Americans resist the effort of the enemy of democracy to draw them out from their country, back into a “league of nations,” from which in 1776 America freed herself. Americans must defend their country and purge it of elements which are foreign to its mental soil.
     Christ is separating the tares from the wheat. All must finally yield to the law of God and His Christ and become obedient followers of the meek and lowly One, who triumphed over the dream-experience, death. The self-imposed suffering and torture of the animal qualities, which compose the fleshly so-called man, will finally cause all nations to submit to the law of righteousness, and the Mind which was in Christ Jesus will eventually establish throughout the world the spiritual brotherhood of man.
     Pagan nations, governed by the law of sin, cannot forever perpetuate a generation, which prolongs suffering, sorrow, and terminates in death, and which continues, at this hour, to crucify Christ at his second appearing. These warring elements, the mental forces of the so-called carnal mind—hypnotism, mesmerism, occultism, necromancy, esoteric magic, etc., — compose the “league of nations.” Their subtle sophistry is striving with all its claim to power and presence, to draw from America the defenders of Christ’s Christianity. Americans will remain on their own soil, and defend their own heritage. Christ will complete his mission. He will apply his rod, divine love, to all peoples, throughout the nations, until all acknowledge God, eternal Life and Love, as the Father of man. {Notice that she says that, “Americans will remain on their own soil, and defend their own heritage.”}
     The soldiers of Christ compose the innumerable and invisible host, augmented by the visible disciples of to-day. Thus Christ’s great army of the past and present are united in their allegiance to the oncoming “King of kings.” This visible and invisible host wear in their foreheads the “white stone,”[26] “the stone which the builders [of Babylon, the carnal mind[27]] rejected.”[28] It is the stone upon which America was founded.
     This host is armed with “the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God,”[29] and is under the command of “the Prince of Peace.” Standing upon their own soil, America, and guarded by the God of Israel, they will defend their country, and Christ will deliver America from all who are opposed to God and His Christ. {This includes any ISIS terrorists!} Democracy cannot unite with autocracy and pagan idolaters, to save that which Christ alone is able to save by applying his rod—the power of the law of God, eternal Life and Love. {From this helpful hint, from 1922, could this be our answer to how Americans should rightfully respond in regards to what is taking place near Babylon today?}
     True Americans will continue to stand upon their own soil {within our conscious thought} with Christ. They will obey the law of God; and the potency of Love, Life, and Truth, which they reflect, will finally reach all nations and will enable humanity to pass through the exalting experiences, the suffering out of the fleshly or carnal pseudo mind, which the Master endured, that he might redeem his immortality. They will ultimately attain the humility which exalts the divine nature in man, and unites him to his creator.
     Finally “every knee shall bow…and every tongue shall confess”[30] that there is but one God, one Father-Mother, eternal Life and Love, and that all men are brethren. Then will be revealed the “new heaven” and the “new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth” will have “passed away.”[31] Then will end the conflict between God and His Christ against the “dragon…and his angels,”[32] the so-called carnal man. Then “the wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose,”[33] [34] “and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things,” material thoughts, with their phenomena of sin and so-called death, will have “passed away.”[35]
     Americans cannot unite with the world of theocratic autocracy. Classification is inevitable. Contention is not yet ended. It will continue until Spirit compels the recognition of God and the spiritual universe, as the only reality of being.
     Again we emphasize the spiritual fact, that all mental elements of the so-called carnal man, which oppose God, must end in self-extinction. Whoever possesses the qualities of the carnal mind and is found among the tares, whether they be located in Europe or in America, cannot escape the bundling and burning.
     The wheat will remain in America and will continue to defend their Declaration of Independence, their Constitution, their Monroe Doctrine, and their sacred rights. They will eventually put on the full armor of faith and understanding; they will fulfil the law of Love, and ultimately the relation of man to his Maker, his Father, God, and to his brother man, will be established.

     {This is where I will end her article, she did have a poem by Alice Morgan Harrison at the end of her article, but I do not feel that it is necessary to quote. The next thing in her book, page 697, is a letter to the editor, from October 27, 1922, criticizing Augusta Stetson’s preceding article opposing the “League of Nations.” I will not publish the whole letter, or article that is titled THE STRAW THAT BREAKS THE CAMEL’S BACK, as I feel that I can summarize his objections quickly. First off, his biggest gripe is that he felt that her article was “blasphemy”. Does the man even really know that the word means, “breaking the law”? I ask in what way did her article break God’s Law? Nor did she break human law because the American public did not vote for the League of Nations.
     He writes, “The very people who ever did and are still supporting the league of nations are, for the most part, devout Christians, preachers, college professors, church people, and others who recognize that the one thing, that the enemies of the covenant of the league of nations cannot take away from it, is the fact that it is shot through with the spirit of Jesus Christ. It has had and still has its warmest support from the pulpit. Christian ministers would not support it, if it is contrary to Christianity. The covenant acknowledges the eight hour {work} day as the right thing. It advocates the abolition of white slavery. It affirms that government should exist by the consent of the governed. It binds nations together in a compact for the survival of weak nations — which is something entirely new in international intercourse. It provides every available means for the pacific adjustment of disputes and would resort to war only as the last resort.”
     He also asked, “From what league of nations, we would like to ask, did America free herself in 1776?”
     Augusta’s reply to Mr. Carl E. Roth, Editor of The North Side Citizen in Chicago, Illinois, begins on page 702 of her book.}

     A friend has mailed to me your issue of October 27, 1922, in which the leading editorial is devoted to my full-page article, which I inserted in The Chicago Tribune of October 22nd, and I regret to note that you disagree with the spiritual sentiments to which I have given voice. I am sure, Mr. Roth, that you would not deny to a woman who has devoted her life, almost from youth, to the promulgation of Christ’s Christianity, or Christian Science, as discovered and founded by my Teacher and Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the privilege of giving to the people the spiritual interpretation of such a great question as the so-called “league of nations.” While I freely grant you the privilege of criticizing my article in your columns, I am sure that in accordance with the American spirit of fair play, you will allow me the right to reply to the questions which you have publicly propounded to your readers, and will publish this letter in full in the columns of your paper.
     You say, “We would like to know who paid for the full-page advertisement in one of Chicago’s papers last Sunday”…You also ask, “Who is Augusta E. Stetson?”
     I have already handed to one of my secretaries, Mr. Franklin Ford, my personal check from my own funds, for $13,123, to defray the cost of inserting my full-page article, not only in The Chicago Tribune, but also in The New York Times, The New York Herald, New York Tribune, New York World, New York Globe, Evening Post and Mail, Brooklyn Daily Eagle; the Boston Post, the Washington Star, the Sun and The Evening Sun, Baltimore, Md., Baltimore American, Baltimore News, and Albany Journal. This I have freely given to promulgate Christian Science, the Science of being, which Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated, and which was discovered and founded by Mary Baker Eddy, and given to the world in the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. In addition to this last payment, more than $150,000 has been expended during the past two years for the publication of various metaphysical articles from my pen, ranging from four pages to less than a page in length, the purpose of which was to awaken the people to the great truths of Christian Science and of pure Americanism. {I have included this paragraph because I feel that it shows how much her heart was in what she did because of the price she mentions. Also, even though she was no longer a member of the Boston “Church” of Christ Scientist she still practiced Christian Science and demonstrated it, how else would she have had this kind of money?}
     A genuine Christian Scientist, or follower of Christ Jesus, has no need to lay up treasures upon earth, where “moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal”[36] The Psalmist said, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”[37] God supplies man’s daily need. The master Metaphysician, Christ Jesus, understood this and left this prayer to his followers: “Give us this day our daily bread.”[38] The rich young man asked the Master what he should do to inherit eternal life. Jesus replied, “Go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor [those who are ignorant of God’s ever-presence and protecting care of His children], and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.”[39] A true Christian Scientist puts his trust in Truth, and supply of every need follows. This I have proved for more than thirty years; and I shall continue to put more and more trust in infinite Life and Love, God. I doubt not that the promise will continue to be verified: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse…and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”[40]
     As to your query, “Who is Augusta E. Stetson?” I am glad to inform you that I was sent by my Teacher and Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, to New York City in 1886, with this charge: “I want you to establish the Christianity of Christian Science in New York City.” I have held aloft the standard of Truth in this city for more than thirty years, despite the most bitter opposition, continued persecution, and resistance from those who cannot understand the spiritual essence of Christ’s Christianity and who do not wish to live the life and emulate the example of Christ.
     In White’s Encyclopedia and other biographical reference works, you may learn that I, with my students, built First Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City, on Ninety-sixth Street and Central Park West, as a cost of $1,250,000, and dedicated it in 1903, free of debt, immediately upon completion. Since 1887 I have healed the sick, preached the gospel, and taught Christian Science in my church, whose pulpit I occupied as Pastor, for seventeen consecutive years.
     I am the author of the following works on divine metaphysics, or Christian Science, published by Messrs. G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 2 West 45 Street, New York City:

Reminiscences, Sermons, and Correspondence, 1282 pages.

Vital Issues in Christian Science with Facsimile Letters of Mary Baker Eddy, 405 pages.

Poems, 132 pages.

My Spiritual Aeroplane, 57 pages.

Greetings and a Message to the Dear Children, 35 pages.

A new volume entitled, Sermons and other Writings on Christian Science, containing 1277 pages, is now in press.[41]

     …In dissenting from my statement that America can never join the so-called “league of nations,” you say that the people who are “still supporting the league of nations are, for the most part, devout Christians, preachers, college professors, church people and others, who recognize that the one thing that the enemies of the covenant of the league of nations cannot take away from it is the fact that it is shot through with the spirit of Jesus Christ.” You affirm that, “It has had and still has its warmest support from the pulpit,” and that “Christian ministers would not support it, if it is contrary to Christianity.”
    The true nature of the “league of nations” has been carefully concealed by the opposers of American democracy. Their efforts to draw America into the subtle web of autocracy and paganism have proved futile. The real character of the “league of nations” is not understood, except by those whose vision is not clouded by a false, material sense of the brotherhood of man, or an utter ignorance of America’s sacred duty to defend her Constitution, her laws, and her spiritual ideals.
     You claim that Christ Jesus would have supported the so-called “league of nations,” notwithstanding the fact that the ill-assorted collection of political governments banded together at Geneva includes non-Christians and anti-Christians, to whom the very name of Christ is anathema. There are too many of this class in America.
     The attitude taken by some, that the Christ spirit is to be tolerant towards evil, and to let all forms of Satanic darkness prosper without protest, is unfortunately common among the learned classes of people whom you enumerate; but it is contrary to truth, as plainly set forth in the inspired pages of the New Testament, which the true American takes as his guide to eternal Life.
     The Master said, “I came not to send peace, but a sword.”[42] He denounced unbelievers in the most forcible language, calling them a “generation of vipers,”[43] “fools and blind,”[44] “how can ye escape the damnation of hell?”[45] “Ye are of your father the devil;”[46] “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites.”[47] Christ Jesus whipped out of the temple the money changers and overthrew of the tables of them that sold doves.
     Can any thinker to-day put forth the hypothesis that the meek and mighty Son of God would have mingled in fellowship with worldly politicians, leagued together for the purpose of perpetuating human autocracy, the pretended divine right of earthly kings, and all the pagan paraphernalia of anti-Christian so-called civilization, which masquerades under the badge of Christianity, but reverses Jesus’ words and works? The spiritually illumined of this hour, or true Americans, are adhering to genuine spiritual Christianity, as taught and proved by Christ Jesus, in preaching the gospel, healing the sick, casting out devils, and raising those dead in material sense; and they will win the victory. They are aware of the fact that, during all the long ages, the organized creeds have not demonstrated the Spirit of the Master, nor performed the mighty works, which he assured them they could do, if they obeyed his teaching. This is the psychological hour in which scholastic theologians are being weighed in the balances, and are found wanting.
     You inquire, “From what league of nations, we would like to ask, did America free herself in 1776?”
     I reply, that Britain, our brother in Israel, was at that time under an autocratic, tyrannical kingship, which still continues to hold her in bondage, but from which, according to Scripture, she will finally emerge, having been compelled to pay the price of obedience to the law of God. [Today the Queen of England really is impotent.] This autocratic government was and still continues to be allied in form to all the governments of Europe, and like them, is a survival of medieval darkness, when church and state were combined, as a colossal engine for preventing liberty of thought and action, and for oppressing the people. From this league, America declared her independence in 1776, and founded our Federal Republic upon the Rock, Christ, whose divine guidance brought forth our immortal document, the Constitution of the United States; and our separateness was then forever established.
     Dear Mr. Roth, this dawn of a new order of ages sent forth streaming rays of light over the entire earth, putting new hope and inspiration into the hearts of people everywhere, the effects of which we see to-day in the increased striving for liberty and more spiritual ideals. It is America’s mission now, as always, to lift up herself and do her missionary work at home, with her own heart and soul, in conforming more closely to the divine pattern of Christ’s teaching and example, thus serving as an exemplar for the rest of the world; it is not her mission to consort with foreign human governments and help perpetuate an order destined to disappear.
     I repeat now, as in my article, that the government of the world is upon the shoulder of Christ and of them that are Christ’s, although the nations blinded by human autocracy do not yet see, nor the deaf to the voice of Christ hear him. Those who claim to rule by divine right of kings, who exert tyrannical power for selfish purposes, who are swayed by the human passions of greed, revenge, hatred, lust, jealousy, envy, human ambition, and so forth, cannot continue to rule, nor can America ever unite with them in any league, or “world court,” or any other form of political union. {This includes a United Nations!}
     To say that such an attitude is selfish or cruel is untrue, and betrays an ignorance of the problem. “Work our your own salvation,”[48] is the demand of Christ. America’s mission is to work out her own salvation, and to lead the world up the path Spirit-ward. She cannot do it by going down to the mental level of those who are still in bondage to autocracy and paganism; but as America pioneers along the “rugged way,”[49] in the Herculean effort to save and free herself from the parasites which would prevent her emancipation from bondage to sin and death, the path is made easier to those who follow, — for all nations finally must walk in the way that leads to Christ’s Christianity and the brotherhood of man, or divine democracy.
     The so-called “league of nations” has failed in every instance to prevent the very things for which its loudest advocates supported it, namely, the prevention of wars and the solution of the distresses arising from human politics and selfish diplomacy. The effort to procure America’s participation in the “league of nations” was the outstanding issue in the last presidential election, and the proposition at that time was buried beneath a majority vote of seven millions against it. The soul of America is responding to the demands of Christ, as the crucial hour of mental emancipation from theocratic autocracy approaches. The downfall of the proposed “league of nations” was inevitable from the beginning.

     Augusta’s ending comments to Mr. Roth and a copy of a letter in commendation of my stand for America, which was published in the New York Evening Post of November 3rd followed her letter.
     I will not include this statement that was written in support of Augusta’s article on the “league of nations.” Although it is of interest, I feel that Augusta Stetson’s words are sufficient.
     I feel that this post is necessary in today’s world. It is a time to remember what has actually taken place in our country less than 100 years ago. Perhaps if we begin to remember it will help us to see where our country has gotten off track. We need to stay upon “The Way.”

     Mary Baker Eddy basically told us this truth in Science and Health in her chapter “Atonement and Eucharist”. She wrote:

     If Truth is overcoming error in your daily walk and conversation, you can finally say, “I have fought a good fight…I have kept the faith,” because you are a better man. This is having our part in the at-one-ment with Truth and Love. Christians do not continue to labor and pray, expecting because of another’s goodness, suffering, and triumph, that they shall reach his harmony and reward.
     “If the disciple is advancing spiritually, he is striving to enter in. He constantly turns away from material sense, and looks towards the imperishable things of Spirit. If honest, he will be in earnest from the start, and gain a little each day in the right direction, till at last he finishes his course with joy.
     “If my friends are going to Europe [infuses added by me], while I am en route for California [the crown], we are not journeying together. We have separate time-tables to consult, different routes to pursue. Our paths have diverged at the very outset, and we have little opportunity to help each other. On the contrary, if my friends pursue my course, we have the same railroad guides, and our mutual interests are identical; or, if I take up their line of travel, they help me on, and our companionship may continue.
     “Being in sympathy with matter, the worldly man is at the beck and call of error, and will be attracted thitherward. He is like a traveler going westward for a pleasure-trip. The company is alluring and the pleasures exciting. After following the sun for six days, he turns east on the seventh, satisfied if he can only imagine himself drifting in the right direction. By-and-by, ashamed of his zigzag course, he would borrow the passport of some wiser pilgrim,[50] thinking with the aid of this to find and follow the right road.
     “Vibrating like a pendulum between sin and the hope of forgiveness, — selfishness and sensuality causing constant retrogression, — our moral progress will be slow. Waking to Christ’s demand, mortals experience suffering. This causes them, even as drowning men, to make vigorous efforts to save themselves; and through Christ’s precious love these efforts are crowned with success.
     “‘Work out your own salvation,’ is the demand of Life and Love, for to this end God worketh with you. ‘Occupy till I come!’ Wait for your reward, and ‘be not weary in well doing.’ If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race.
     “When the smoke of battle clears away, you will discern the good you have done, and receive according to your deserving. Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified.
     “Final deliverance from error, whereby we rejoice in immortality, boundless freedom, and sinless sense, is not reached through paths of flowers nor by pinning one’s faith without works to another’s[51] vicarious effort. Whosoever believeth that wrath is righteous or that divinity is appeased by human suffering, does not understand God.
     “Justice requires reformation of the sinner. Mercy cancels the dept only when justice approves. Revenge is inadmissible. Wrath which is only appeased is not destroyed, but partially indulged. Wisdom and Love may require many sacrifices of self to save us from sin. One sacrifice, however great, is insufficient to pay the debt of sin. The atonement requires constant self-immolation on the sinner’s part. That God’s wrath should be vented upon His beloved Son, is divinely unnatural. Such a theory is man-made. The atonement is a hard problem in theology, but its scientific explanation is, that suffering is an error of sinful sense which Truth destroys, and that eventually both sin and suffering will fall at the feet of everlasting Love.
     “Rabbinical lore said: ‘He that taketh one doctrine, firm in faith, has the Holy Ghost dwelling in him.’ This preaching receives a strong rebuke in the Scripture, ‘Faith without works is dead.’ Faith, if it be mere belief, is as a pendulum swinging between nothing and something, having no fixity. Faith, advanced to spiritual understanding, is the evidence gained from Spirit, which rebukes sin of every kind and establishes the claims of God.”   (S&H 21:1-23:20)

It reads: “When depraved reason is preferred to revelation, error to Truth, and evil to good, and sense seems sounder than Soul, the children are tending the regulator; they are indeed losing the knowledge of the divine Principle and rules of Christian Science, whose fruits prove the nature of their source. A little more grace, a motive made pure, a few truths tenderly told, a heart softened a character subdued, a life consecrated, would restore the right action of the mental mechanism, and make manifest the movement of body and soul in accord with God.}

     To-day, Sunday, December 2, 1923, is Monroe Day, the one hundredth anniversary of the establishment of the Monroe Doctrine, in 1823, by President James Monroe, who acted in obedience to the warning of George Washington, to beware of entangling alliances with European powers. The Monroe Doctrine debars Europeanism, in all its forms and phases, from America, but does not exclude Ephraim (Great Britain), the brother of Manasseh (America), for these are the two sons of Joseph, whom Jacob blessed.1
     The Monroe Doctrine declares that “we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their [European] system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety.” This Doctrine, which is to-day as binding upon America as is our God-inspired Constitution, likewise forbids America from taking part in any way in the affairs of Europe, whether it be in the so-called “league of nations,” the league’s “World Court,” or in any other political maneuver, designed to entangle America and destroy our Declaration of Independence, in which we asserted our separateness from the Old World, and in which we placed our nation under the sovereign protection of Christ, in these words “with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
     Fidelity to God and His Christ will finally enable Americans to arouse Europe from bondage to anti-Christ, or pagan idolatry and ecclesiastical despotism, based upon the hallucination that God is the creator of that which terminates in sin, sickness, sorrow, and death. “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”2 That Europe may finally be Christianized, is the effort of Christ and of his disciples of the twentieth century, but not by entering Europe’s domain, not by compromising our spiritual standard, nor by returning to that form which our forefathers—the Pilgrims, Puritans, Huguenots, Walloons, Quakers, and Anglo-Saxon pioneers of Washington’s day—separated themselves, suffering the privations of a savage wilderness, in order to gain “freedom to worship God according to the dictates of conscience.”
     At this hour, we must rise to gain enough of the Mind of Christ, to arouse Europe to the necessity of worshipping the one God and His Christ, “in spirit and in truth.”3 Europe must forsake evil thoughts and acts, which have caused wars, devastation, and the terrible conditions which she has brought upon herself, as the result of hatred, malice, envy, jealousy, revenge, greed, money-lust, mad ambition, hypnotic human will, idolatry of earthly potentates, selfishness, and sensuality. Obedience to the law of the one God and His Christ will finally win release from bondage to anti-Christ, and will restore “on earth peace, good will toward men.”4
     In a letter to President Monroe, written in 1823, regarding the Doctrine which Monroe later promulgated, Thomas Jefferson declared:

     Our first and fundamental maxim should be, never to entangle ourselves in the broils of Europe. Our second, never to suffer Europe to intermeddle with cis-Atlantic affairs. (Writings of Thomas Jefferson, vol. x., p. 277.)

     European influence, exerted here through her ambassadors, through propaganda in the press, through theaters, grand opera, motion pictures, and through persons dwelling here who have an alien, European allegiance and sympathy, can never destroy the Monroe Doctrine, nor undo the work of George Washington and his colleagues, which was dictated and prompted by God and His Christ, the “King of kings, and Lord of lords,”5 the sovereign Protector and only Head of our nation, upon whose shoulder our government always has rested, and will forever remain, for “of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end.”6
     All that is not of Christ; all that is alien to the Christly Americanism of the pioneers, and of Washington, Jefferson, Monroe, and Lincoln; all that is foreign to the spiritual, Nordic ideals, first planted here in the year 1000, by the Discoverer of America, — the Norseman, Leif, son of Eric, in whose honor our country was named “America;” all that is anti-Christian, is destined to be purged out of America, and our true character, as a Christian nation, is to be redeemed, through Christ and them that are Christ’s.

     {The following quotes and Bible Scripture are what went along with this article.}

Though the blood of the prophets of Freedom be spilled,

The thunder of Sinai cannot be stilled.

                                                            (Edwin Liebfried)

     And the Lord said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Let my people go, that they may serve me. (Exodus viii., 20.)
     And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.
     Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
     The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before the seven ways.
                                                            (Deuteronomy xxviii., 1, 6, 7.)

     For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
                                                            (Isaiah ix., 6.)

     Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
     Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord God unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.1
     Now is the end come upon thee.
     Thus saith the Lord God; An evil, an only evil, behold is come.
     Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of any of their’s: neither shall there be wailing for them.
     The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn.

     The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.
     But they that escape of them shall escape, and shalt be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one of his iniquity.
     They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord.

                                                            (Ezekiel vii., 1-3, 5, 11, 12, 15, 16, 19)

     Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord.
     Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed My people; Ye have scattered My flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord.
     And I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries…and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
     And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the Lord.
                                                            (Jeremiah xxiii., 1-4.)

     For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
     But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.2
                                                            (Malachi iv., 1, 2.)

     In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.      (John i., 1.)
     This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.       (I. John i., 5.)

     I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
     No man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
     The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
     I and my Father are one.
     My Father is greater than I.
                                                            (John viii., 12: xiv.,6, 10:x., 30:xiv., 28.)

     Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
     Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. …
     But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the son of man be.3
     For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark.
     And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
     Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
     Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
     Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
                                                            (Matthew xxiv., 34-42.)

     Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.
(I.Timothy vi., 17.)

     And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints.
     To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
                                                            (Jude i., 14, 15.)

     Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
     Behold, he cometh with clouds;4 and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
     Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred three score and six.5
     And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps.
     And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders:6 and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.7
     And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen.
     And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
     And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle and reap: for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
     And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.
     And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
     And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.
     And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (Revelation i., 3, 7: xiii., 18: xiv., 2, 3, 8, 14-16: xxi., 1, 3, 4.)

Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and

Author of its Textbook, Science and Health with

Key to the Scriptures

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine

of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the

doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and

the Son. (II. John i., 9.)

     The advent of Jesus of Nazareth marked the first century of the Christian era, but the Christ is without beginning of years or end of days. Throughout all generation both before and after the Christian era, the Christ, as the spiritual idea, — the reflection of God, — has come with some measure of power and grace to all prepared to receive Christ, Truth. Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets caught glorious glimpses of the Messiah, or Christ, which baptized these seers in the divine nature, the essence of love. The divine image, idea, or Christ was, is, and ever will be inseparable from the divine Principle, God. Jesus referred to this unity of his spiritual identity thus: “Before Abraham was, I am;” “I and my Father are one;” “My Father is greater than I.” The one Spirit includes all identities.
     By these sayings Jesus meant, not that the human Jesus was or is eternal, but that the divine idea or Christ was and is so and therefore antedated Abraham; not that the corporeal Jesus was one with the Father, but that the spiritual idea, Christ, dwells forever in the bosom of the Father, God, from which it illumines heaven and earth; not that the Father is greater than Spirit, which is God, but greater, infinitely greater, than the fleshly Jesus, whose earthly career was brief.
     The invisible Christ was imperceptible to the so-called personal senses, whereas Jesus appeared as a bodily existence. This dual personality of the unseen and the seen, the spiritual and material, the eternal Christ and the corporeal Jesus manifest in flesh, continued until the Master’s ascension, when the human, material concept, or Jesus, disappeared, while the spiritual self, or Christ, continues to exist in the eternal order of divine Science, taking away the sins of the world, as the Christ has always done, even before the human Jesus was incarnate in mortal eyes. (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 333, 334.)

     When my dear brethren in New York desire to build higher…they must begin on a wholly spiritual foundation, than which there is no other, and proportionably estimate their success and glory of achievement only as they build upon the rock of Christ, the spiritual foundation. This will open the way, widely and impartially, to their never-ending success, — to salvation and eternal Christian Science.
     Spirit is infinite; therefore Spirit is all. “There is no matter” is not only the axiom of true Christian Science, but it is the only basis upon which this Science can be demonstrated. (Miscellany, p. 357.)

     In divine Mind, not matter, creates all identities, and they are forms of Mind, the ideas of Spirit apparent only as Mind, never as mindless matter nor the so-called material senses. …
     Spirit imparts the understanding which uplifts consciousness and leads into all truth. …Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good.

     Knowing the Science of creation, in which all is Mind and its ideas, Jesus rebuked the material thought of his fellow-countrymen: “Ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” How much more should we seek to apprehend the spiritual ideas of God, than to dwell on the objects of sense! To discern the rhythm of Spirit and to be holy, thought must be purely spiritual.

     Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions’ den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless. All of God’s creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible. (Science and Health, pp. 503, 505, 509, 510, 514.)

     The false evidence of material sense contrasts strikingly with the testimony of Spirit. Material senses lefts its voice with the arrogance of reality and says:
     I am wholly dishonest, and no man knoweth it. I can cheat, lie, commit adultery, rob, murder, and I elude detection by smooth-tongued villainy. Animal in propensity, deceitful in sentiment, fraudulent in purpose, I mean to make my short span of life one gala day. What a nice thing is sin! How sin succeeds, where the good purpose waits! The world is my kingdom. I am enthroned in the gorgeousness of matter. But a touch, an accident, the law of God, may at any moment annihilate my peace, for all my fancied joys are fatal. Like bursting lava, I expand but to my own despair, and shine with the resplendency of consuming fire.
     Spirit, bearing opposite testimony, saith:
     I am Spirit. Man, whose senses are spiritual, is my likeness. He reflects the infinite understanding for I am Infinity. The beauty of holiness, the perfection of being, imperishable glory, — all are Mine, for I am God. I give immortality to man, for I am Truth. I include and impart all bliss, for I am Love. I give life, without beginning and without end, for I am Life. I am supreme and give all, for I am Mind. I am the substance of all, because I am that I am. (Science and Health, pp. 252, 253.)

1{It is most symbolic that America actually has a section of land that is called the Four Corners!}

2{The words “neither root nor branch” has to do with material lineage. Notice verse 2 says “Sun” not “Son.” I think that this indicates the Light of Christ Jesus and not a material man called Jesus Christ. The word “wings” points us to the omni-activity of Science.}

3{The Second Day of Spirit, with Noah, prefigures the Sixth Day of Truth when Mary Baker Eddy’s God-crowned mission takes place.}

4{This means he comes as a divine messenger and brings remembrance to us of Noah’s covenant with God – the bow with the cloud – that St. John speaks of in Revelation 10, the angel that is clothed with the cloud and has a bow upon his forehead (within his conscious thought).}

5{Man is created, in Genesis 1, during the Sixth Day of Truth. The number of the devil, or the one evil which is mortal mind or animal magnetism, is 666 – sex, sex, sex. In Genesis 1 there is no sex – for God, Mind, is the creator. But in Genesis 2:6 onward there are three types of sex – for the Lord God Jehovah (a tribal god), mortal mind, is the creator.}

6{The four beasts is the divine calculus of the Word (the Lion), the Christ (the Ox), Christianity (the face of a man), and Science (the flying eagle). The twenty-four elders are the twenty-four questions/answers located in the fourteenth chapter of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, “Recapitulation.”}

7{The 144,000, or the 144 as we leave off the zeros, is a gross (12 x 12). This gross is equivalent to the Christ mass, or the Christian Science congregation that is the outcome of the reunited lost Israel with Judah in America.}
