Code to the Scriptures – Chapter 2

Chapter 2 – 2001:  A Space Odyssey

I was in junior high school when I went on a field trip to see 2001:  A Space Odyssey sometime after it came out in theaters.  I was very young in Christian Science and I did not really understand the movie’s message.  But God makes all things work out, and in April of this year (2010) I met Gary Lockwood (who played one of the astronauts in the movie).  He spoke a lot at the convention about the movie, and after hearing him I decided I wanted to see the movie again.  A couple months after meeting Mr. Lockwood I found and purchased a DVD copy of the movie.  This time I was able to understand its symbols and progressive storyline with the Word order of the Seven Days (Gen. 1:1-2:3).  So this chapter is explaining the movie along with the ordered sequence found in SCIENCE AND HEALTH’S fifteenth chapter “Genesis.”
The movie 2001:  A Space Odyssey is about man’s spiritual evolution out of an erroneous belief that man is damned (fallen from Grace), or rather, it is about the ape-man mentality coming out of the belief in the reality of mortal mind – animal magnetism.
The movie begins in total darkness with only some strange type of music going on.  This opening reminds me of the beginning chapter of Genesis, where there is darkness but then God creates (reveals) Light (Mind-Science).

Genesis i.1.  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

“Ideas and identities
“The infinite has no beginning.  This word beginning is employed to signify the only, – that is, the eternal verity and unity of God and man, including the universe.  The creative Principle—Life, Truth, and Love—is God.  The universe reflects God.  There is but one creator and one creation.  This creation consists of the unfolding of spiritual ideas and their identities, which are embraced in the infinite Mind and forever reflected.  These ideas range from the infinitesimal to infinity, and the highest ideas are the sons and daughters [not the apes] of God.”[1]
Finally the MGM logo[2] is depicted.  The lion is the first living creature of the divine calculus.  The lion is the Word of God.

Genesis i. 2.  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.  And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

“Spiritual harmony
“The divine Principle and idea constitute spiritual harmony, – heaven and eternity.  In the universe of Truth, matter is unknown.  No supposition of error enters there.  Divine Science, the Word of God, saith [it roars] to the darkness upon the face of error, “God is All-in-all,” and the light of ever-present Love illumines the universe.  Hence the eternal wonder, – that infinite space is peopled with God’s ideas, reflecting Him in countless spiritual forms.”[3]

Mind as Mind

Genesis i. 3.  And God said, Let there be light:  and there was light.” (S&H 503:18)

First – The title “THE DAWN OF MAN” is put on the screen and the audience sees the beginning of a sunrise.  The sunrise represents the dawning of the Christ in man’s consciousness.

“Mind’s idea faultless
“Immortal and divine Mind presents the idea of God; first, in light; second, in reflection; third, in spiritual and immortal forms of beauty and goodness.  But this Mind creates no element nor symbol of discord and decay.  God creates neither erring thought, mortal life, mutable truth, nor variable love.”[4]
Second – Two groups of prehistoric men are shown.  The dominating group resides around a water hole (a pool of reflection or a Laver Sea).  The dominating apes do not recognize who they are; the animal does not comprehend the image and likeness of God.  Eventually the weaker tribe encounters a black monolith “an organized whole that acts as a single powerful force.”  They are overly cautious about this new object, and they eventually touch the “touch stone” of the Christ.  I do feel that the monolith is symbolic of the Christ Mind that transforms mankind, however, here (especially) this monolith represents the Word as the Word (Order of the Word).
Third – A new-man sits in front of a skeleton of an animal and he picks up a bone.  The thought comes to him to use this bone as a killing tool for food.  He teaches his other fellow men how to use the bone and they kill animals and eat them.  However, this is not enough, for they need water too, so the alpha male of the dominating ape tribe is hit upon its mortal mind by the ruling (governing rod of divine Science) “bone” and dies.  This first act of murder may be described as the act – “survival of the fittest” but I see it more as the survival of the brightest.  In order to be born again the mortal (animal magnetism) must die.   The other apes run off and the nation of the new-man becomes the new guardians of the water hole (or as a pun, the water wholeness of man).  They are capable of recognizing their own reflections as the image and likeness of God as “immortal forms of beauty and goodness.”  Remember these three presentations, as they are repeated at the end of the movie.

Mind as Spirit

Genesis i. 4.  And God saw the light, that it was good:  and God divided the light from the darkness.

“God, Spirit, dwelling in infinite light and harmony from which emanates the true idea, is never reflected by aught but the good.”[5]  This is the tone of Mind as Spirit, and here we can easily see that the infinite light, represented by the new-man, is separated from the darkness of the ape animal.  Although the movie seems to depict the evolution of material man coming from the ape (matter) the story must be spiritually translated.  The only real murder that takes place is the murder of matter (ape) through spiritual enlightenment.

Mind as Soul

Genesis i. 5.  And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.  And the evening and the morning were the first day.

“All questions as to the divine creation being both spiritual and material are answered in this passage, for though solar beams are not yet included in the record of creation, still there is light.  This light is not from the sun…” (S&H 504:3-10)

Light preceding the sun
These new-men reflect the light which “is not from the sun nor from volcanic flames, but it is the revelation of Truth [the Christ symbolized by the black monolith[6]] and of spiritual ideas.  This also shows that there is no place where God’s “light is not seen, since Truth, Life, and Love fill immensity and are ever-present.  Was not this a revelation instead of a creation?”[7]

“Evenings and mornings
“The successive appearing of God’s ideas is represented as taking place on so many evenings and mornings, – words which indicate, in the absence of solar time, spiritually clearer views of Him, views which are not implied by material darkness and dawn.  Here we have the explanation of another passage of Scripture, that ‘one day is with the Lord as a thousand years.’  The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously, whereas a thousand years of human doctrines, hypotheses, and vague conjectures emit no such effulgence.

“Spirit [re]verses darkness
“Did infinite Mind create matter, and call it light?  Spirit is light, and the contradiction of Spirit is matter, darkness, and darkness obscures light.  Material sense is nothing but a supposition of the absence of Spirit.  No solar rays nor planetary revolutions form the day of Spirit.  Immortal Mind makes its own record, but mortal mind, sleep, dreams, sin, disease, and death have no record in the first chapter of Genesis.

Spirit as Mind

Genesis i. 6.  And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

“Spiritual firmament
“Spiritual understanding, by which human conception, material sense, is separated from Truth, is the firmament.  The divine Mind, not matter, creates all identities, and they are forms of Mind, the ideas of Spirit apparent only as Mind, never as mindless matter nor the so-called material senses.” (S&H 505:4-12)

Spirit as Spirit

Genesis i. 7.  And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament:  and it was so.

Understanding imparted
“Spirit imparts the understanding which uplifts consciousness and leads into all truth.  The Psalmist saith:  ‘The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.’  Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good.  Understanding is the line of demarcation between the real and unreal.  Spiritual understanding unfolds Mind, – Life, Truth, and Love, – and demonstrates the divine sense, giving the spiritual proof of the universe in Christian Science.

“Original reflected
“This understanding is not intellectual, is not the result of scholarly attainments; it is the reality of all things brought to light.  God’s ideas reflect the immortal, unerring, and infinite.  The mortal, erring, and finite are human beliefs, which apportion to themselves a task impossible for them, that of distinguishing between the false and the true.  Objects utterly unlike the original do not reflect that original.  Therefore matter, not being the reflection of Spirit, has no real entity.  Understanding is a quality of God, a quality which separates Christian Science from supposition and makes Truth final.”[8]

Spirit as Soul

The movie’s b.c.[9] image of man is instantly seen via a transition shot[10] as the a.d. man of 2001, at the endtime – during the Day of Love (in the tone of Truth), the Sabbath where God rests in perfect action.[11]  “Genesis i. 8.  And God called the firmament Heaven.  And the evening and the morning were the second day.

“Exalted thought
“Through divine Science, Spirit, God, unites understanding to eternal harmony [evening, which is represented by the darkness of outer space].  The calm and exalted thought or spiritual apprehension is at peace.  Thus the dawn [morning] of ideas goes on, forming each successive stage of progress.”[12]
It is interesting that this movie was filmed four to three years before 1969.  It was released in 1968, just one year before Apollo 11’s launch on Mary Baker Eddy’s birthday (July 16).  Womanhood, the woman God-crown, has dominion over the moon, for her feet stand upon the moon.
The year of 1968 is toward the end of the Sixth Day of Truth.  On July 16, 1969 mankind actually catches up with Mary Baker Eddy’s Footsteps of Truth, the woman God-crowned who has her feet upon the moon.  Man is now in space (heaven), he is no longer limited by earth’s gravity, for man is one with God (“Principle and its idea is one”).

Soul as Mind

Genesis i. 9.  And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear:  and it was so.

“Unfolding of thoughts
“Spirit, God, gathers unformed thoughts into their proper channels, and unfolds these thoughts even as He opens the petals of a holy purpose in order that the purpose may appear.” (S&H 506:15-21)
These petals belong to the Holy City, as symbolized in the movie as the round space station.

Soul as Spirit

Genesis i. 10.  And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas:  and God saw that it was good.

“Spirit names and blesses
“Here the human concept and divine idea seem confused by the translator, but they are not so in the scientifically Christian meaning of the text.  Upon Adam devolved the pleasurable task of finding names for all material things, but Adam has not yet appeared in the narrative.  In metaphor, the dry land illustrates the absolute formations instituted by Mind, while water symbolizes the elements of Mind.[13]  Spirit duly feeds and clothes every object, as it appears in the line of spiritual creation, thus tenderly expressing the fatherhood and motherhood of God.  Spirit names and blesses all.  Without natures particularly defined, objects and subjects would be obscure, and creation would be full of nameless offspring, — wanderers from the parent Mind, strangers in a tangled wilderness.  (S&H 506:20-507:10)

Adam named the animals in the Garden (the material body).  This means that Adam gave names to organic life – heart, lungs, kidneys, etc.  After eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil Adam (material medicine) names all diseases of these organs and attempts to find remedies to fix or mend the organs thought to be diseased.  This is mental quackery.

Soul as Soul

Genesis i. 11.  And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth; and it was so.

“Divine propagation
“The universe of Spirit reflects the creative power of the divine Principle, or Life, which reproduces the multitudinous forms of Mind and governs the multiplication of the compound idea man.  The tree and herb do not yield fruit because of any propagating power of their own, but because they reflect the Mind which includes all.  A material world implies a mortal mind and man a creator.  The scientific divine creation declares immortal Mind and the universe created by God.

“Ever-appearing creation
“Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity.  This divine Principle of all expresses Science and art throughout His creation, and the immortality of man and the universe.  Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source.  Mortal sense inverts this appearing and calls ideas material.  Thus misinterpreted, the divine idea seems to fall to the level of a human or material belief, called mortal man.  But the seed is in itself, only as the divine Mind is All and reproduces all – as Mind is the multiplier, and Mind’s infinite idea, man and the universe, is the product.  The only intelligence or substance of a thought, a seed, or a flower is God, the creator of it.  Mind is the Soul of all.  Mind is Life, Truth, and Love which governs all.”[14]

Soul as Principle

Genesis i. 12.  And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind:  and God saw that it was good.

“Mind’s pure thought
“God determines the gender of His own ideas.  Gender is mental, not material.  The seed within itself is the pure thought emanating from divine Mind.  The feminine gender is not yet expressed in the text.  Gender means simply kind or sort, and does not necessarily refer either to masculinity or femininity.  The word is not confined to sexuality, and grammars always recognize a neuter gender, neither male nor female.  The Mind or intelligence of production names the female gender last in the ascending order of creation.  The intelligent individual idea, be it male or female, rising from the lesser to the greater, unfolds the infinitude of Love.” (S&H 508:9-25)

Soul as Life

Genesis i. 13.  And the evening and the morning were the third day.

“Rising to the light
“The third stage in the order of Christian Science is an important one to the human thought, letting in the light of spiritual understanding.  This period corresponds to the resurrection, when Spirit is discerned to be the Life of all, and the deathless Life, or Mind, dependent upon no material organization [neither church nor physical body].  Our Master, reappeared to his students, — to their apprehension he rose from the grave, — on the third day of his ascending thought, and so presented to them the certain sense of eternal Life.”  (S&H 508:26-509:8)

Principle as Mind

Genesis i. 14.  And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven, to divide the day from the night, and let them be for signs [twelve stars of the woman’s crown], and for seasons [divine infinite calculus], and for [the seven] days [of revelation], and [8,000] years.

“Rarefaction of thought
“Spirit creates no other than heavenly or celestial bodies, but the stellar universe is no more celestial than our earth.  This text gives the idea of the rarefaction of thought as it ascends higher.  God forms and peoples the universe.  The light of spiritual understanding gives gleams of the infinite only, even as nebulae indicate the immensity of space.

“Divine nature appearing
“So-called mineral, vegetable, and animal substances are no more contingent now on time or material structure than they were when ‘the morning stars sang together.’  Mind made the ‘plant of the field before it was in the earth.’  The periods of spiritual ascension are the days and seasons of Mind’s creation, in which beauty, sublimity, purity, and holiness—yea, the divine nature—appear in man and the universe never to disappear.

“Spiritual ideas apprehended
“Knowing the Science of creation, in which all is Mind and its ideas, Jesus rebuked the material thought of his fellow-countrymen:  ‘Ye can discern the face of the sky, but can ye not discern the signs of the times?’  How much more should we seek to apprehend the spiritual ideas of God, than to dwell on the objects of sense!  To discern the rhythm of Spirit and to be holy, thought must be purely spiritual.”  (S&H 509:9-510:5)

Principle as Spirit

Genesis i. 15.  And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven, to give light upon the earth:  and it was so.

“Truth and Love enlighten the understanding, in whose ‘light shall we see light,’ and this illumination is reflected spiritually by all who walk in the light and turn away from a false material sense.”  (S&H 510:6-12)

Principle as Soul

Genesis i. 16.  And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night:  He made the stars also.

“Geology a failure
“The sun is a metaphorical representation of Soul outside the body, giving existence and intelligence to the universe.  Love alone can impart the limitless idea of infinite Mind.  Geology has never explained the earth’s formations; it cannot explain them.  There is no Scriptural allusion to solar light until time has been already divided into evening and morning; and the allusion to fluids (Genesis i. 2) indicates a supposed formation of matter by the resolving of fluids into solids, analogous to the suppositional resolving of thoughts into material things.

“Spiritual subdivision
“Light is a symbol of Mind, of Life, Truth, and Love, and not a vitalizing property of matter.  Science reveals only one Mind, and this one shining by its own light and governing the universe, including man, in perfect harmony.  This Mind forms ideas its own images, subdivides and radiates their borrowed light, intelligence, and so explains the Scripture phrase, ‘whose seed is in itself.’  Thus God’s ideas ‘multiply and replenish the earth.’  The divine Mind supports the sublimity, magnitude, and infinitude of spiritual creation.”  (S&H 510:13-511:6)
In 2001:  A Space Odyssey the space station is in orbit above Earth and man has also built a moon base.  I will call these the two great lights of this story.  Both of these have symbolic references to the city foursquare and the city of our God – a.k.a. the Holy City (spoken of at the end of Revelation).
The space station is the city foursquare  X  and the city of our God  +  as it rotates in space as a wheel (a cult).  The space station’s rotation is the function of the divine calculus.  “This sacred city, described in the Apocalypse (xxi. 16) as one that ‘lieth foursquare’ and cometh ‘down from God, out of heaven,’ represents the light and glory of divine Science….Taken in its allegorical [symbolic] sense, the description of the city as foursquare has a profound meaning.  The four sides of our city are the Word, Christ, Christianity, and divine Science; ‘and the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day:  for there shall be no night there.’  This city is wholly spiritual, as its four sides indicate.”[15]  Mary Baker Eddy has symbolized the city foursquare in her stained glass window of the Boston edifice – WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK.[16]  “This spiritual, holy habitation has no boundary nor limit, but its four cardinal points are:  first, the Word of Life, Truth, and Love; second the Christ, the spiritual idea of God; third, Christianity, which is the outcome of the divine Principle of the Christ-idea in Christian history; fourth, Christian Science, which to-day and forever interprets this great example and the great Exemplar.  This city of our God has no need of sun or satellite, for Love is the light of it, and divine Mind is its own interpreter.  All who are saved must walk in this light.  Mighty potentates and dynasties will lay down their honors within the heavenly city.  Its gates open towards light and glory both within and without, for all is good, and nothing can inter that city, which ‘defileth, . . . or maketh a lie.’”[17]

Window of the Open Book – the Holy City of God

The movie sets are made up of white light and white surroundings (no need for sun or satellite).  Although these lights are electric, which usually points to animal magnetism, I think they symbolize the fact that God’s Science has enlightened man’s consciousness via “a little open book” called SCIENCE AND HEALTH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES, by Mary Baker Eddy.
The descriptions of these two cities of Revelation are one city.  The city foursquare consists of three outer squared cycles and the center hub squared cycle.  These squares represent the enclosed safety found within the government of divine Science.  The city of our God, however, represents Christian Science having no boundaries; it is like a wheel with twelve spokes leading outward yet having no rimed wall to keep Love from spreading throughout the universe, like the space in between the petals of the Rose Window.  The city foursquare is based upon the divine calculus matrix with its sixteen walls while the city of our God is based upon the wheel of Christianity – Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, Truth, Life, Spirit, Soul, Mind, and back to Principle.

Painting of Window of the Open Book (I made the windows go in a clockwise order, but notice the four squares).

Principle as Principle

Genesis i. 17, 18.  And God set them in the firmament of heaven, to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness:  and God saw that it was good.

“Darkness scattered
“In divine Science, which is the seal of Deity and has the impress of heaven, God is revealed as infinite light.  In the eternal Mind, no night is there.”  (S&H 511:7-14)

2001:  A Space Odyssey has been said to have been based upon a 1951 story by Arthur C. Clark called The Sentinel.[18]  The story was actually written in 1948.  The movie features a man by the name of Floyd “gray haired, holy.”[19]  However, the original story of The Sentinel features a man named Wilson (son of Will or the determined guardian).  What Wilson finds is actually a pyramid that is inside a circle (which I find quite interesting considering my work with WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK, I too have a pyramid inside a circle, however, it has not taken twenty years for me to penetrate its pyramid).  According to the story it takes them twenty years to penetrate the pyramid and the Sea of Crisis (Mare Crisium) is explored in 1996.  Again, this year is important because I mark this year as the beginning of the Seventh Day of Love.  Twenty years after 1996 would be 2016.  The year 2016 is way beyond the movie’s year of 2001.  I also find the title of the Welsh song that Wilson heard over his radio to be quite important, it is called “David of the White, Rock.”  This is the Principled Christ Rock of the beloved son (David).  Clark describes the location of Mare Crisium as being located at about 2:00 on the surface of a full moon.  What I find interesting is if you took the location of the moon’s surface area between the twelve and the two it would be where the Open Bible and the Woman God-crowned Keystone’s are located on the Window.  In the movie the Sentinel obelisk is found in a different location – at Tycho.   At this point, in the movie, the main character Floyd is on a shuttle plane (Pan “all; every; advocating or involving the union of a group” America [nation for the Second Coming of Christ]) to the space station and then he continues on to the moon base.  His reason for going to the moon is not known by most humans (on Earth and on the Space Station).  The cover story is a lie about a possible out break of some disease.  The government does not want mankind to know that they have found a signpost of alien life within our universe.
When the shuttle, that Floyd is aboard, arrives at the moon base a circle is opening.  There are eight pie shaped pieces slowly pulling back from the center.  This is again the Holy City symbol (the X and the + as one).  Inside there is a lighted rectangle located underneath in the hub.  This so reminds me of WINDOW OF THE OPEN BOOK (accept instead of twelve spokes there are only eight).
After Floyd’s meeting he and some other men fly out to the location of the uncovered black monolith.

Principle as Life

Genesis i. 19.  And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

“The changing glow and full effulgence of God’s infinite ideas, images, mark the periods of progress.”  (S&H 511:15-18)
The men are all wearing space suits; however, when the monolith is touched it has a high frequency sound that hurts their ears (the audience does not find the sound pleasant either).  This sound is the cry of a sentinel telling the alien intelligence that man has evolved enough for space travel.  It is like the sound emitted by the Sentinel is a clarion call.  Here is where the movie and the magazine story resemble each other – both the Sentinel and the Monolith were to have made contact with an alien race, contact with the moon’s objects (in both accounts) sends out a signal to the aliens as if it is saying, “The men on Earth are now capable of space travel.”  The movie’s black Monolith is like a Sentinel.  It seems as if the timing of the original story points to the appearance of the second female Sentinel who is seen on the cover of the Christian Science Sentinel.  She comes in the 1950’s and her official God-crowned mission began in 1996.

Life as Mind

Genesis  i. 20.  And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

“Soaring aspirations
“To mortal mind, the universe is liquid, solid, and aeriform.  Spiritually interpreted, rocks and mountains stand for solid and grand ideas.  Animals and mortals metaphorically present the gradation of mortal thought, rising in the scale of intelligence, taking form in masculine, feminine, or neuter gender.  The fowls, which fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven, correspond to aspirations soaring beyond and above corporeality to the understanding of the incorporeal and divine Principle, Love.” (S&H 511:19-512:3)

Life as Spirit

Genesis 1. 21.  And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind:  and God saw that it was good.

“Seraphic [angelic-astronaut] symbols
“Spirit is symbolized by strength, presence, and power, and also by holy thoughts, winged with Love.  These angels of His presence, which have the holiest charge, abound in the spiritual atmosphere of Mind, and consequently reproduce their own characteristics.  Their individual forms we know not, but we do know that their natures are allied to God’s nature, and spiritual blessings, thus typified, are the externalized, yet subjective, states of faith and spiritual understanding.”  (S&H 512:4-16)
The movie’s next scene takes place sixteen months later.  I find the number sixteen to be important in that a complete cycle for the divine calculus matrix has taken place from the time on the moon.  The next shot is of the spaceship Discovery.  Mary Baker Eddy is the Discoverer of Christian Science.  What does the word “discover” mean?  We often think of the word as having to do with finding something new.  But usually, where God is concerned, what is found has actually always been; perhaps it has just been forgotten.  For example, Newton discovered gravity, however, the law of gravity was always in effect; if it had not been we would float in the air and probably off into space.  Mary Baker Eddy really did discover (or uncover) the Principles of Scientific healing that Jesus Christ and his disciples demonstrated in the New Testament.  And we legitimately refer to her as the Discoverer because she is the first to write down these Principles of God’s Science.  Yet, there is another aspect to the word discovery and it is rooted to the word apocalypse.  Apocalypse[20] actually means:  “to uncover hell.”  This relates to Mary Baker Eddy’s fifth chapter in the Christian Science Textbook.  The title is “Animal Magnetism Unmasked.”  Why would we want to unmask animal magnetism or hell?  Well, we unmask, or uncover, error (hell) so that it becomes exposed and then destroyed or annihilated within the subjective consciousness and then in the projected objective.  It is of most importance, this aspect of Mary Baker Eddy’s God-crowned mission, because SHE IS THE ONE to uncover animal magnetism and tell us how to overcome evil.  Jesus did not do this, it was not assigned to him to do, it was assigned to the Woman.  What this one evil really is, what this animal magnetism being unmasked is, is personal sense or persona of the material ego.  True Christianity, the third living creature of the divine calculus, nullifies personal sense via the face of a man (not the face of men).  In Truth, in reality, there is only one man, one spiritual idea – the Christ, the Son of the living God.  In the movie we are taking a look at – the astronaut (angel) Dave (David).  He is this Christ-man.
Since we are dealing with a ship, we must symbolize this ship as man’s Church consciousness.  The Church with the highest spiritual consciousness in the latter 19th century and early 20th century was The First Church of Christ Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, as well as, the detached Branch Churches throughout the United States and the world.  This slowly changed after December 3, 1910 (now over one hundred years ago) when the Board of Directors kidnapped the Cause of Christian Science with their illegal 89th edition of the Church Manual.  Today the highest spiritual Church consciousness is found in the Independent Christian Scientists who are willing to accept Mary Baker Eddy as the second coming of Christ, and study the 1950s teachings of John W. Doorly (and his students — which go beyond the 1950s).  The Boston Board of Directors excommunicated Doorly because he actually taught the system of Science and the Network Matrix with its divine calculus!  Why, how dare he do good!  Doorly and his students, however, were not the only ones targeted for excommunication.  The others would be the Christian Scientists that would stand up for their Leader and declare that she is the fulfillment of Bible prophecy.  One such Christian Scientist is Paul Smillie.  I agree with what the Doorly lineage teach, however, they are missing one important factor, and that is where Helen Wright came in.  Helen, like Paul Smillie, understood the importance of Mary Baker Eddy’s place in Bible prophecy and she taught it.  Helen was a Doorly pupil (not student).  I was first introduced to Paul Smillie’s work and then I found out about Helen.  Helen and I became friends, although we never personally met one another.  I feel that this is why I too have tried to write about the matrix structures and Mary Baker Eddy’s place – both are of importance.

THE WORD (the lion) AS CHRISTIANITY (the face of a man)

Life as Soul

Genesis i. 22.  And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas; and let fowl multiply in the earth.

“Multiplication of pure ideas
“Spirit blesses the multiplication of its own pure and perfect ideas.  From the infinite elements of the one Mind emanate all form, color, quality, and quantity, and these are mental, both primarily and secondarily.  Their spiritual nature is discerned only through the spiritual senses.  Mortal mind inverts the true likeness, and confers animal names and natures upon its own misconceptions.  Ignorant of the origin and operations of mortal mind, — that is, ignorant of itself — this so-called mind puts forth its own qualities, and claims God as its author; albeit God is ignorant of the existence of both this mortal mentality, so-called, and its claim, for the claim usurps the deific prerogatives and is an attempted infringement on infinity.”  (S&H 512:17-513:3)
Discovery is on its way to Jupiter, the fifth (Life[21]) planet yet the sixth (Truth[22]) main body of our solar system.  On board are five (Life) astronauts.  Three of the astronauts are asleep in cryo-chambers (asleep in the Adam dream of the First Day of Mind’s counterfeit creation).  The fourth (Principle) astronaut and the fifth (Life) astronaut are consciously awake, while the sixth crew member (Truth) is the ship’s computer HAL.  I see Discovery’s on board computer as a representation of the erroneous ways of materially organized religion.  Even though the divine calculus and matrix system exist within HAL (the Church’s congregation’s consciousness) it is totally ignored by the Mother Board and considered to be “unauthorized literature” thus it is outlawed reading material and considered to be false teaching.
In the early 1990s the Board of Boston decided to print a book in order to inherit the much then needed money belonging to an estate.  Bliss Knapp originally published this book in the 1940s.  He was a loyal follower of Mary Baker Eddy.  He had known her from his early youth, and he had experienced Christian Science healing, and witnessed Christian Science healings.  The name of his book is Destiny of The Mother Church.  The Board of Directors did not appreciate his book because he stated the Truth that Mary Baker Eddy is the woman God-crowned of Revelation 12.  I also think they were mad and upset that he did not get their permission to publish the book!  The Board demanded that he round up all the copies of his book and destroy them.  (What I have found out after writing this post is that around the time that Knapp’s book came out certain man was elected to the Boston board of directors.  This man was also a member of what is known today as a “Progressive” one world order mentality.  He was an Insider.  Led by the ways of socialism and communism this Board member went against Christian Science in order to destroy it.  What better way to destroy Christian Science than to attempt to kill the woman [drown her in false propaganda]?)  Knapp’s wife stipulated in her will that Boston could inherit her monies if they would publish and distribute her husband’s book.  They did not get all the monies because they delayed in publishing Knapp’s book, so because of their delay another group was in line for the inheritance, thus a court case ensued.   The Board agreed to publish Destiny of The Mother Church (at the same time they decided to hide their publishing of Knapp’s book as being part of a biographical series on Mary Baker Eddy in the publication and promotion of other biographies) in order to receive as much money as they could.  But they made sure that the Field would not receive Knapp’s book with open arms (or open minds) by sending out negative propaganda about the book.  And unfortunately, the vast majority of the Field bought into the propaganda tactics used by the Boston board of directors.  Many Reading Rooms would not carry the book, however, they would order it for anyone who wanted a copy of it.  I was even charged double for one of my copies of the book (animal magnetism).
In the movie, man created HAL in 1992, so he is nine years old during the voyage.  I feel that the number nine is symbolic of spiritual rebirth and has the same symbolic meaning as the 40 years that the Hebrews wandered in the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt.  Because HAL is artificial intelligence he is really a counterfeit of Truth and eventually becomes erroneous in his functions on the ship (material organized Church).  Back on Earth HAL has a brother computer (In the sequel movie this computer has a female voice, so we could say she is HAL’s sister computer.); I feel that this sister computer represents the Independent Christian Scientists who have studied Doorly’s matrix system.
The first astronaut we see is the boxing-jogging Frank “free” Pool.  Remember the water hole of the ape-men?  To me Frank Pool represents the Free thought within the Eddy-circle, the hub of the wheel, known as SCIENCE AND HEALTH.  Gary Lockwood plays Frank Pool.  Gary “mighty spearman” Lockwood represents God’s Womanhood.  Gary Lockwood is also an artist, and artists are symbolic of Christian Scientists.
The second astronaut is Dave (David “Beloved Son”) Bowman.  The Bowman is our Archer, or Beloved Son of the Arch Covenant (perhaps the Key Stone[age] Man?).
Both astronauts point us to Mary Baker Eddy.  It is interesting that there use to be a round pool (pond) out front of the original Boston edifice.

Notice in the round pond, a shape that resembles a pyramid.

Life as Principle

Genesis i. 23.  And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

“Spiritual spheres
“Advancing spiritual steps in the teeming universe of Mind lead on to spiritual spheres and exalted beings.  To material sense, this divine universe is dim and distant, gray in the sombre hues of twilight, but anon the veil is lifted, and the scene shifts into light.  In the record, time is not yet measured by solar revolutions, and the motions and reflections of deific power cannot be apprehended until divine Science becomes the interpreter.”  (S&H 513:4-13)
The front end of the spaceship looks like a huge ball.  The set, for this part of the ship, incorporated a big Ferris wheel[23] —  Ferris “Peter” (rock – divine calculus) wheel – cult (the operation of the divine calculus).  The actors run and walk (advancing spiritual steps) inside the wheel, like hamsters run on their exercise wheel.  There are also smaller circle sets, that we see in a couple places during the movie, that enable people to get from one place on a ship to another.  Could these represent “the motions and reflections of deific power”?

Truth as Mind in the tone of the Word as the Word

Genesis i. 24.  And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind:  and it was so.

“Continuity of thoughts
“Spirit diversifies, classifies, and individualizes all thoughts, which are as eternal as the Mind conceiving them; but the intelligence, existence, and continuity of all individuality remain in God, who is the divinely creative Principle thereof.”  (S&H 513:14-21)

Genesis i. 25.  And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth upon the earth after his kind:  and God saw that it was good.

“God’s thoughts and spiritual realities
“God creates all forms of reality.  His thoughts are spiritual realities.  So-called mortal mind—being nonexistent and consequently not within the range of immortal existence—could not be simulating deific power invert the divine creation, and afterwards recreate persons or things upon its own plane, since nothing exists beyond the range of all-inclusive infinity, in which and of which God is the sole creator.  Mind, joyous in strength, dwells in the realm of Mind.  Mind’s infinite ideas run and disport themselves in humility they climb the heights of holiness.”  (S&H 513:22-514:9)

Truth as Spirit as Soul in the tone of the Word as the Word

“Qualities of thought
“Moral courage is ‘the lion of the tribe of Juda,’ the king of the mental realm.  Free and fearless it roams in the forest.  Undisturbed it lies in the open field, or rests in ‘green pastures,…beside the still waters.’  In the figurative transmission from the divine thought to the human, diligence, promptness, and perseverance are likened to ‘the cattle upon a thousand hills.’[24]  They carry the baggage of stern resolve, and keep pace with highest purpose. …

The Way (colorized by me – the lion is by the pond and cattle are on the hill) from Christ and Christmas….Tenderness accompanies all the might imparted by Spirit.  The individuality created by God is not carnivorous, as witness the millennial estate pictured by Isaiah: —

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard shall lie down with the kid;
And the calf and the young lion, and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.[25]

“Creatures of God useful
“Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lion’s den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless.  All of god’s creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible.  A realization of this grand verity was a source of strength to the ancient worthies.  It supports Christian healing, and enables its possessor to emulate the example of Jesus.  ‘And God saw that it was good.’

“The serpent harmless
“Patience is symbolized by the tireless worm, creeping over lofty summits, persevering in its intent.  The serpent of God’s creating is neither subtle nor poisonous, but is a wise idea, charming in its adroitness, for Love’s ideas are subject to the Mind which forms them—the power which changeth the serpent into a staff.” (S&H 514:10-515:10)
So HAL (a talking serpent), for some unknown reason, says that the communication disk on the outside of the ship has a failing part and will eventually stop working.  So the failing part is retrieved and brought on board for diagnosis.  However, they can find nothing wrong with the part.  It is at this time that we find out that HAL has a counterpart on Earth.  HAL’s brother’s (sister’s?) diagnosis is that HAL is the problem, and this worries the astronauts because HAL is in charge of the workings of the ship (Church).
They try to seclude themselves so that they can talk without HAL hearing them; however, they fail to realize that HAL can read their lips.[26]  The two men are discussing that they may eventually have to turn HAL off (disorganize HAL).  So HAL plots the assassination (Excommunication) of the five astronauts (the Woman’s Five Churches), for the sake of the mission (the sake of the Movement).
This is what I think is the stupid part of the story, HAL knows what the mission is, and perhaps it is this knowledge that drives HAL bonkers, or crazy; or perhaps it is the fact that HAL is not allowed to tell Dave and Frank what their mission is about that may contribute to HAL’s insanity?  None of the astronauts were told the real reason for their mission either.  In a way, this is like what has happened in Boston.  The December 3, 1910 Board of Directors have many successors, and over the years these Boards have rejected their Leader’s mission.  The unenlightened Boards have buried the woman God-crowned mission on the moon (human intellectualism)!  They have rejected her as their Leader, and they refuse to see her as the fulfillment of Bible prophecy or the second coming of Christ (this is why they were against Bliss Knapp’s book Destiny of The Mother Church).  And because they have followed this erroneous path; to HAL they have become insane (drunk) with power.
Frank takes the communication part[27] outside the ship to put back in place.  While he is in space HAL takes control of the traveling pod and kills Frank by cutting his air supply line.  Dave goes out to retrieve Frank.  While Dave is outside the ship HAL kills the other three astronauts by turning off the life support to their chambers.  The screen reads, “malfunction” and I say it means that HAL is performing a malicious function in deed!  Dave, upon his return, says his most famous line, “HAL, open the pod bay doors.”  But HAL does not respond.  Dave finally gets HAL to respond but HAL tells Dave he will not open the doors.  Dave then enters the ship via an air lock and proceeds to go turn off HAL.
Inside HAL’s big giant brain are square crystals.  The lighting is red, which I feel represents mortal mind (error) rather than Mind.  HAL begs Dave for his life.  It does bother Dave that he has to turn HAL off (put an end to the material organization) because they do have a relationship.  Dave has often shown HAL his artwork (works of Scientific Healing).  But Dave realizes that HAL would kill him if given the chance so he must not allow HAL to live.  HAL can feel his intelligence slipping away, at the end he sings “Daisy” slower and slower.
Daisy means:  “Day’s Eye” so perhaps this song is a symbol of “lights out” for HAL?  HAL has kept watch with omni-vision eyes throughout the ship.  These eyes are singular and red.  In 1968 this same symbol is used in The Prisoner series to represent One.  One runs the prison for spies, and One is evil until understood by Six (Truth, generic man) to be Principle – God.  It is also of symbolic importance that One happens to look exactly like the prisoner.  One is the prisoner’s own personal sense of himself.  This is all that keeps any of us prisoner in matter.  Again, the red in HAL’s case is not good but evil.  I think the reason why HAL turned out to be evil was because he had no moral compass.  Being that he was artificial intelligence he could not reflect Mind.  But I feel the reason why the writers chose “Daisy” for HAL to sing is because it is the first thing used for a talking computer.  So in computer history, the song of “Daisy” was artificial intelligence’s first spoken words.
The last part of the movie has Dave in a pod going out to a monolith in space around Jupiter and the moons.  Throughout the movie, with the monoliths, there are always these alignments of celestial bodies.  To me this seems to be a symbol for the system of Science.  But perhaps it also has to do with astronomy and places like Stonehenge?
The movie never shows Dave actually touching the monolith.  I do not know if he was supposed to touch it or not, perhaps it was the music or sound the monolith was making that sent Dave on his trip through space and time?
Mind as Mind – “first, in light” – Dave seems to be traveling through space at a tremendous rate.  (The colors remind me of someone who might be on acid taking a chemical trip.)  I like the colors as I feel that it is man comprehending the seven synonymous terms for God.  I found it interesting that the actors on the DVD’s commentary track referred to this as a Stargate!  My son said it reminded him of Chuck when Chuck is downloaded with computer information (he becomes the Intersect Computer).  Who is to say that he is not correct on his assessment?  As I feel that it could have been a mental download of spiritual information, and in reality space and time are illusions belonging to material belief.
My husband said that the fact that Dave gets older, after he goes on the trip, was symbolic of man letting go of the material life (life dependent upon organs).
When Dave is in the house (those involved with the movie say the aliens made this house for Dave by reading his thoughts) he exits from his pod (symbolic of his material body).  Now, I feel that this house actually represents Dave’s consciousness where he goes through four more mental stages.  He is in his space suit, however, he sees his reflection with no space suit – no material persona.

Truth as Soul in the tone of the Truth as the Christ as the Christ

Genesis i. 26.  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

“Elohistic plurality
“The eternal Elohim includes the forever universe.  The name Elohim is in the plural, but this plurality of Spirit does not imply more than one God, nor does it imply three persons in one.  It relates to the oneness, the tri-unity of Life, Truth, and Love.  ‘Let them have dominion.’  Man is the family name for all ideas, — the sons and daughters of God.  All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power.

“Reflected likeness
“Your mirrored reflection is your own image or likeness.  If you lift a weight, your reflection does this also.  If you speak, the lips of this likeness move in accord with yours.  Now compare man before the mirror of his divine Principle, God.  Call the mirror divine Science, and call man the reflection.  Then note how true, according to Christian Science, is the reflection to its original.  As the reflection of yourself appears in the mirror, so you, being spiritual, are the reflection of God.  The substance, Life, intelligence, Truth, and Love, which constitute Deity, are reflected by His creation; and when we subordinate the false testimony of the corporeal senses to the facts of Science, we shall see this true likeness and reflection everywhere.”  (S&H 515:11-516:8)

Mind as Spirit – “second, in reflection” – The first stage is easy to figure out as Dave sees his reflection in a mirror.  So the first stage is man’s comprehension and understanding that he is the image and likeness of God.  Dave hears a noise, someone eating.

Truth as Soul in the tone of Love as the Christ reflecting the Christ

“Love imparts beauty
“God fashions all things, after His own likeness.  Life is reflected in existence, Truth in truthfulness, God in goodness, which impart their own peace and permanence.  Love, redolent with unselfishness, bathes all in beauty and light.  The grass beneath our feet silently exclaims, ‘The meek shall inherit the earth.’  The modest arbutus sends her sweet breath to heaven.  The great rock gives shadow and shelter.  The sunlight glints from the church-dome, glances into the prison-cell, glides into the sick-chamber, brightens the flower, beautifies the landscape, blesses the earth.  Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God’s dominion over all the earth.  Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God.”  (S&H 516:9)

Truth as Principle in the tone of Soul as the Christ reflecting the Christ

Genesis i. 27.  So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.

 “Idea man and woman
“To emphasize this momentous thought, it is repeated that God made man in His own image, to reflect the divine Spirit.  It follows that man is a generic term.  Masculine, feminine, and neuter genders are human concepts.  In one of the ancient languages the word for man is used also as the synonym of mind.  This definition has been weakened by anthropomorphism, or a humanization of Deity.  The word anthropomorphic, is such a phrase as ‘an anthropomorphic God,’ is derived from two Greek words, signifying man and form, and may be defined as a mortally mental attempt to reduce Deity to corporeality.  The life-giving quality of Mind is Spirit, not matter.  The ideal man corresponds to Life and to Love.  In divine Science, we have not as much authority for considering God masculine, as we have for considering Him feminine, for Love imparts the clearest idea of Deity.”  (S&H 516:24-517:14)
Mind as Soul – “third, in spiritual and immortal forms of beauty and goodness” – The second stage is man eating; it is his mental gestation of his own being as the image and likeness of God, and his being one with God.  When the older (wiser) Dave looks up to where the younger (not as wise) Dave is supposed to be standing there is no man or persona standing there.  The only man in the room is the older (wiser) Dave.

Truth as Principle in the tone of Spirit as the Christ reflecting the Christ

“Divine personality
“The world believes in many persons; but if God is personal, there is but one person, because there is but one God.  His personality can only be reflected, not transmitted.  God has countless ideas, and they all have one Principle and parentage.  The only proper symbol of God as person is Mind’s infinite ideal.  What is this idea?  Who shall behold it?  This ideal is God’s own image, spiritual and infinite.  Even eternity can never reveal the whole of God, since there is no limit to infinitude or to its reflections.”  (S&H 517:15)

Truth as Life in the tone of Christianity reflecting Christianity

Genesis i. 28.  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

“Birthright of man
“[Life] Divine Love blesses its own ideas, and causes them to multiply, — to manifest His power.  [Truth] Man is not made to till the soil.  His birthright is dominion, not subjection.  [Love] He is lord of the belief in earth and heaven, — himself subordinate alone to his Maker [Mind].  This is the Science of being.”  (S&H 517:25-518:4)

Truth as Truth in the tone of Christianity reflecting Christianity

Genesis i. 29, 30.  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.  And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat:  and it was so.

“Assistance in brotherhood
“[Spirit] God gives the lesser idea of Himself for a link to the greater, and in return, the higher always protects the lower.  The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; [Soul] and blessed is that man who seeth his brother’s need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another’s good.  Love giveth to the least spiritual idea might, immortality, and goodness, which shines through the bud.  All the varied expressions of God reflect health, holiness, immortality—infinite Life, Truth, and Love.”  (S&H 518:5-23)

Truth as Love in the tone of Science reflecting Science

Genesis i. 31.  And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good.  And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

“Perfection of creation
“The divine Principle, or Spirit, comprehends and expresses all, and all must therefore be as perfect as the divine Principle is perfect.  Nothing is new to Spirit.  Nothing can be novel to eternal Mind, the author of all things, who from all eternity knoweth His own ideas.  Deity was satisfied with His work.  How could He be otherwise, since the spiritual creation was the outgrowth, the emanation, of His infinite self-containment and immortal wisdom?” (S&H 518:24-519:6)
Then comes the third stage.  Dave knocks his glass over and it falls to the floor.  As he reaches to pick it up he looks at the bed.  The man in the bed is the oldest (wisest) Dave yet.  This really old man is dieing.  The Dave who had mentally digested his food is gone he has been replaced by the monolith.  As the old man looks toward the foot of the bed he reaches out with his right hand (manhood, dominant power) to touch the black monolith.  The old man dies (all remnants of the mortal minded man dies).  This means, as Jesus put it, that man is to be born again, he is to be brought forth as a New-Man, a spiritual man.  This New-Man is born during the seventh Day of Love.

Love as Truth

Genesis ii. 1.  Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

“Infinity measureless
“Thus the ideas of God in universal being are complete and forever expressed, for Science reveals infinity and the fatherhood and motherhood of Love.  Human capacity is slow to discern and to grasp God’s creation and the divine power and presence which go with it, demonstrating its spiritual origin.  Mortals can never know the infinite, until they throw off the old man and reach the spiritual image and likeness.  What can fathom infinity!  How shall we declare Him, till, in the language of the apostle, ‘we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ’?” (S&H 519:7-21)
The camera angle changes to looking toward the head of the bed.  Instead of seeing a dead Dave we see Dave reborn as a floating embryo child (“the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ”).  This is the New-Man of God – the God-crowned woman’s manchild.

Love as Love in the tone of Science reflecting Science

Genesis ii. 2.  And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.

“Resting in holy work
“God rests in action.  Imparting has not impoverished, can never impoverish, the divine Mind.  No exhaustion follows the action of this Mind, according to the apprehension of divine Science.  The highest and sweetest rest, even from a human standpoint, is in holy work.

“Love and man coexistent
“Unfathomable Mind is expressed.  The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space.  That is enough!  Human language can repeat only an infinitesimal part of what exists.  The absolute ideal, man, is no more seen nor comprehended by mortals, than is his infinite Principle, Love.  Principle and its idea, man, are coexistent and eternal.  The numerals of infinity, called seven days, can never be reckoned according to the calendar of time.  These days will appear as mortality [personal sense] disappears, and they will reveal eternity, newness of Life, in which all sense of error [again, personal sense] forever disappears and thought accepts the divine infinite calculus [Christ reasoning of the Word, the Christ, Christianity, and Science].” (S&H 519:22-520:15)
The movie’s last scene is of Earth.  The camera slowly pulls back to reveal a giant embryo baby Dave.  This is generic man, the one man that reflects the one God.  Generic man is in heaven with his Father-Mother God who “rests in action.”
Although it may not seem as if mankind has actually reached this stage of generic man, even today in 2010 (the sequel to 2001 takes place in 2010), we cannot judge by material minded appearances the advances of spiritual man, the New-Man.  We will find that alien life is not necessarily beings from other planets in the universe but the only stranger (alien) that truly exists is Barbara Streisand (my code name for the woman God-crowned) who understands the reincarnation of Christ throughout human history.  All Life is of God, and God is Life itself.  (Seen below is the painted glass window of the Woman God-crowned in the Edifice of The First Church of Christ Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.  She is like the Monolith (Sentinel) that is on the moon earlier in the movie.)

Woman God-crown Win
So does man’s technology really help him out, or will he have to eventually abandon it all for God?  Technology seen as a material thing is only the counterfeit of true technology.  So material technology must be spiritually translated back to God.  Technology must be understood as a “systematic [metaphysical] treatment of an art [which is Christian Science]; applied” Science; “a technical method [an ordered system] of achieving a practical purpose.”[28]
Altogether there are four squared monoliths.  They symbolize the divine infinite calculus of the Word, the Christ (the feminine representative of Christ is the woman God-crowned), Christianity, and divine Science (the city foursquare).  Although the movie symbolized intelligence via a bone instead of language, I can see the bone as a rod of government, for it empowered the new man superior reign over the apes (for man has dominion over the earth in the Sixth Day of Truth).  It is the woman’s son, in Revelation 12, that is caught up unto heaven and given the rod (bone) of divine Science.  The Christ monolith, located on the moon, sent out a frequency “frequent carrier wave [throughout man’s history is the Christ-link]” signal “communication” to Jupiter’s monolith (Christianity’s touchstone of Christ).  Jupiter is the god of light (Mind, Science).  Juno is the goddess of heaven.  The fourth monolith is of divine Science – that which enables man to be spiritually reborn, via spiritual understanding, not as a material persona but as the New-Man, the Son of God, which is the Christ.

THE BRIDGE (passage between the true and the false)

The Word reflecting the Word

Genesis ii. 4, 5.  These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God [Jehovah] made the earth and the heavens, and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew:  for the Lord God [Jehovah] had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

“Growth is from Mind”
In Genesis 2:4-5 “is the emphatic declaration that God creates all through Mind, not through matter, – that the plant grows, not because of seed or soil, but because growth is the eternal mandate of Mind.  Because Mind makes all, there is nothing left to be made by a lower power.  Spirit acts through the Science of Mind, [we are in the tone of the Word reflecting the Christ] never causing man to till the ground, but making him superior to the soil.  Knowledge of this lifts man above the sod, above earth and its environments, to conscious spiritual harmony and eternal being.”  (S&H 520:23-521:3)

The Word reflecting the Christianity

“Spiritual narrative
“Here the inspired record closes its narrative of being that is without beginning or end.  All that is made is the work of God, and all is good.  We leave this brief, glorious history of spiritual creation (as stated in the first chapter of Genesis) in the hands of God, not of man, in the keeping of Spirit, not matter, – joyfully acknowledging now and forever God’s supremacy, omnipotence, and omnipresence.”  (S&H 521:4)

The Word reflecting Science

“The harmony and immortality of man are intact.  We should look away from the opposite supposition that man is created materially, and turn our gaze to the spiritual record of creation, to that which should be engraved on the understanding and heart ‘with the point of a diamond’ and the pen of an angel.”  (S&H 521:12)
Let us say, then, that we are standing upon a bridge.  We can go one of two ways, or look one of two ways.  Which way will we go or look to?  Will we look to the Elohistic document of creation (Genesis 1-2:3) or will we look to the Jehovistic document with its allegory of Adam?  Will we need to travel the path from sense to Soul because we have been mesmerized into believing that we have fallen from Soul to sense (the carnal sense tries to convince us that we have been born into a material personal body)?  The main message of SCIENCE AND HEALTH is that man must give up the old man (the belief that he is personal sense man) for the New-Man (the spiritual understanding that he is the Son of God man, God’s ideal).

[9] B.C. stands for “before Christ.”  However, there never has been a time when man has been without the Christ link to his divine nature as God’s idea.  Thus, B.C. really means “before the birth of the man called Jesus Christ.”

[10] The new-man throws his bone (rod of divine Science) up into the air and then the shot cuts to a shot of a bone-shaped spaceship in heaven.

[11] Although we are still on the Second Day of Spirit in the Textbook the movie must advance to our time period.  What is interesting about this, however, is the movie was actually made during the Sixth Day of Truth while taking place during the Seventh Day of Love.

[13] Space is also called Seas and this is probably why we call man’s creations (space) ships.  Also the moon has many dry “seas.”  In The Sentinel story, which I will speak about later on, the author writes that the seas of the moon were once covered with water.

[22] The Sixth Day of Truth is when Mary Baker Eddy had her God-crowned mission (consisting of twelve stars [see Revelation 12]).

[23] On the commentary track for the movie the actors themselves referred to this moving set as a Ferris wheel.

[24] In the eleventh illustration (the square one) of Christ and Christmas, in “The Way,” is a hidden (most people probably see it as a bush) lion by a quiet pond in the green pastures, and cattle upon the hills (they are very small, so hard to see).

[25] This is illustrated in a stained glass window in The First Church edifice’s vestry.

[26] According to Gary Lockwood, this was his idea.

[27] I see this as a symbol for The Christian Science Monitor.
